I tried both on different cars and liked the AF more... plus it's cheaper!

AFE is what you want. The other options (mazdaspeed) are simply over-priced and probably do not compare to the craftmenship of the AFE short shifter. This mod is a must have! I was hesitent at first but am very happy with the purchase.

AFE > MS.

The difference between the stock throw and the MS short shifter is not that great. The difference between the stock throw and the AFE is day and night.

mazdaspeed, reduces throw by 20%, costs $450
afe, reduces throw by 30%, costs $250

your choice.

AFE
and the difference is more than you would think..
I raced a titanium grey in my area and I think the
AFE is what let me pull ahead. Then again it could be
several different things...
Anyways.. AFE ftw.

If you are going to spend that kind of money on a suspension system, make sure you also have it PROFESSIONALLY set-up for you by one who specializes in it.

They go on sale from time to time on the forum, but that said, they never seem to go below $200.
Keep the resale value in mind because you will get your money back when you sell your car.

Setting up coil-overs properly involves much more than just a proper alignment. Otherwise, I would have simply told you to get it properly aligned.

The more adjustability a given set of coil-overs has, the more opportunity there is for the novice to screw things up. On the other hand, pay a LEGIT expert/professional to do it for you (someone along the caliber of Robert Mueller) and you will have a great set up for yourself.

Muellerized huh? Phenomenal with suspension and he's proved himself on the track here in Socal.

My reluctance with the AFE Short Shifter is that by appearance, it looks to dramatically decrease the height of the shifter. I am the type of driver that keeps both hands on the wheel, and i prefer a regular heighted shifter, easier to grab when needing to shift.

Does anyone know where abouts the height drop? Their site does not tell you.

Don't forget to add a Voodoo Magnum Pearl* ****, shift pattern laser etched by Knobmeister, to your AFE short shifter.

^ It's not so significantly shorter that reaching for it will be an issue.

edit: * "pearl" denotes the finish polishing style of the aluminum ****. It looks better imho and hides hand prints. "Magnum" is the larger ****, but not overly large - just right.

We'll have to meet up so i can test the AFE. I do have a shift **** though, forgot the name. Miata guys make it or something. It's a black, textured ball shifter, it is perfect, i would not trade it for anything.

If you go through the original AFE shifter thread, you'll find that his shifter is 5mm shorter than stock. So, not an appreciable amount.
