stiffer suspension, lose a little weight you should be good to go. Straightline is a different story though.

they are so close already it shouldn't take much.

RB suspension, flywheel, CZ, and midpipe should do it.

Pray.

You'll never beat a good driver who can get to 164 plus at a blink of an eye.

has to do maybe with the gear ratios and hp.

either way top speed doesn't matter much to me, the top speed on my 8 so far as I see it is 85. :p

The S2000 can't go anywhere near 175 mph stock. According to Road & Track, the S2000 tops out at 163 mph, and the RX-8 is limited at 148 mph.

The '04 S2000 runs on 17s, softer supspension and has 10hp less (230hp -at least the euro version that I know). It's still lighter though, but it's slower than previous models. The performance gap with the 8 should be smaller now.

As for the top speed of the 8, its not limited. I've seen 151mph with ease, while friends of mine have reached 163mph... but comparing top speeds is lame.

Sorry, but the 2.2L S2K engine is stronger than the 2.0L. Unlike the Mazda power ratings, it is believed that although both are rated at 240hp, the 2.2L actually is stonger than the 2.0L, which has been proven out by numerous dyno tests. I've owned 4 S2K's, from 2000-2004 models, so yes, I do know what I'm talkin about! :D

Even the 2004 cars are stiffer in suspension than the RX8 (which I have now). The only way for an 8 to catch a stock S2K would be for it to go on a serious diet, gain some HP, and stiffen the suspension.

Pretty much every car's speedo reads optimistically -- just because your speedo read 151 mph doesn't mean you weren't actually going 148 mph. Anyway, you're referring to a Greek model RX-8, whereas Road & Track tests North American cars; it's possible American cars are limited and Greek ones aren't.

As Banannie pointed out, in North America, the '04 S2000's 2.2 L engine is rated at 240 hp, but is believed to produce more. I don't have power stats for the rest of the world, but since the rest of the world retained the previous 2.0 L engine, I don't see why they'd make less power.

Although the suspension was revised on the '04 S2000, consensus is that performance differences between it and the earlier models are vanishingly small; I've never seen someone who'd performed objective tests say that it's definitely slower, although there are some situations where the earlier cars have an advantage.

Back to the original question, having driven Banannie's lightly prepped RX-8 as well as all manner of S2000s ranging from stock to fully prepped for SCCA Stock competition, I have to agree with her that, although the RX-8's a fun car, it's got its work cut out for it keeping up with an S2000 around a track.

Ok guys:o I guess either the models differ or some mags that I've read were wrong...
As for the top speed our cars can definately go faster than 148mph
