RX8 vs 350Z

What kind of mods whould you need in the rx8 to beat a Z? will a simple exhaust and intake do the work? if not tell me all the mods you would need...

exhaust and intake will help increase the noise your car makes by a factor of 3.

Far as hp gains, you may gain up to 5 hp, but may lose 5 hp as well, depending on what type of intake you pick.

With the greddy turbo kit the RX-8 is just as fast as the 350z

last week i raced against a modded 350z...he had alot done, couple of things i remember were pullies, headers, hiflowcat, exhaust, intake, and probably more i just cant remember. i just have AEM intake, b&b midpipe, and ms dual exhaust.
we raced from a 45mph roll on 2nd gear....lets just say, THEIR 3RD GEAR IS FREAKEN SICCKKKKKKKK....i kept up with him til the end of 2nd gear but once he hit third he pulled about 4-5 car lengths and stoppped pulling at the end of my third...
i'd say we can beat a stock 350z with a few mods like headers, midpipe, exhaust, intake, pullies, lighter flywheel, clutch and ecu...but to beat a modded 350z? i hardly doubt it...

but it also depends if we're starting the race from the line or a roll....

oh btw, did i mention he also had another person in the car and 2 bowling *****? he would have definitely pulled ALOT harded without them...

AWESOME post.

first you say he had a lot done. then you list a 'few' mods that consist of all that & more for the 8.

& you "hardly doubt it"? think about what that means.

well... get yourself a ninja blow dart, stick your head out of the window and shoot at his tire(s) from then on at 45mph, you can just throttle it in 6th gear and win. Ninja Blowguns FTW!

So basically you're stock vs a 350z that is faster than the rx-8 in a straight line even in stock form. Not shocked at the results.

Drop a turbo on your 8 and you'll be faster than him, and without spending a penny more than what he paid for the Z.

headers could easily void a warranty since they are "part of" the motor.

For all those mods, you'd just have a really loud car and still get your *** handed to you by a stock Z.

On the track, an 8 keeps up with the Z in any form I have seen to date until the straights where they will pull away from you. Lap times which is what really counts depend on the track. But I would love to have that extra 50 horses to remove that variable...

In a drag race, there are many cars on the road which will pull away from you. If that is what you want, the 8 is not the car.

Not too many major aftermarket parts that will give a lot of hp out yet. Im just waitin till some real good superchargers/turbos come in production. Lots of them are still in the process.

The 350z's have to pay a lot more for their 2 seater when it comes to insurance. I'm happy with my 8. Too many 350z out on the road anyway. The 8's stand out more

I bought an RX-8 and my boy bought a 350Z i honestly cant keep up with him as far as acceleration goes, but you know what I feel I bought a classier car that gets more looks and more respect so its really a preference choice. And sorry but is it just me when people say header(S!) it gets me fired up! Sorry thats my rant.

Yeh, heard he's done with all the hard stuff and just trying to fix/tune some minor problems. How much hp and torque is it puttin out now? I'm trying to decide whether i should wait and save for rp's supercharger or PTP's turbo

How did you get that Car & Driver article?

I thought it wasn't supposed to be out until the July Issue (which it says on the bottom of the page).
