Rx8 catalitic removal

In South Africa we dont have to have catalitic converters so i want to remove mine but there is a sensor ( O2 or knock) in it. Can someone tell me if I can remove the sensor without causing any problems?

Yeah, should be fine.

You should install a pipe that leads the exhuast gasses away though, the heat and smoke will ruin the underside of your car if you just remove the pipe.

Just be aware that you will probably get a CEL when you remove the cat.

most catless midpipes come with a bung that lets you reattach the sensor.

Get one of those. You will get a CEL but it will not affect the performance of the car.

Thanks to everyone for the info. In South Africa there are no after market parts available for the Rx8 so we have to either import or fabricate ourselves which is what I am going to do. My idea is to remove the CAT and to replace it with a staight through pipe with a fitting for the sensor. I have fabricated all my own exhaust systems for my Rx7's and they turned out quit well. But those models are nots as advanced as the Rx8. By the way what is a CEL?

If you remove the cat then you will get a CEL immediatly. However you have a good solution to avoid the CEL in SA. UNichip is very poplular piggyback in SA and there is a headquater of Unichip in Pretoria, also over a hundred dealerships are in SA. I live in S.Korea and got a unichip Q in my RX-8. I've managed the CEL with Unichip. It works perfectly but you need a good tuner to find the right value of o2 signal. After done you ECU will be happy with it.
