I would splurge on the coilovers from either HKS or JIC simply because, if your serious about going to the track or at least tackleing your favorite back roads, springs won't cut it and you will eventually willl buy the coilovers anyway, at least thats how I look at it.

When I started paintball I didn't waste money one something that I knew I would be upgrading soon anyway, I went for the full monty so I didn't have to worry about it.

Any word on the Unorthodox Flywheel? I am not really familiar with the company but they have a lightened/possibley strengthened one for sale on Hop UP. There pulleys don't work and I would be weary using them on a turbo install (could mess up the timing of the engine for the greddy emanage's maps and cause a whole string of problems).

Well, after all the calculations, looks like it will be almost 30k even for the car I want (RX-8 GT package, Foglights, Xenon bulbs, Appearance Package, Rotary HIghlight Kit (unneccesary but I like the extra touch of detail), etc.... comes to about 30,399 for my area on the car maker.

I have a bit of a weariness for a used RX-8 down the road (possibley a late 2005 if I can find one that was babied with low mileage) but a new one could prove to be as much of a problem (always the chance of a lemon and I have seen a couple people with them here).

I wonder where I can get training as a Mazda auto technician, specifically on Mazda's. I feel confident I could poke my way around normal combustion engines but a rotary is something differant beast all together.

I came from owning a WRX STi to driving around in my new RX8.... They are both great cars but I've had soooo much problems with the Subaru.. since I did a lota engine work and it gave me nothing but headaches. You gotta be really careful with Turbo cars since there are so many vacume hoses involved.
The 8... it's stock so far since up in Toronto we get crazy snows in the winter but other than that except for the cold start I dont see too much issues with the car.

I have already thought about that, dreaming about cars is a fun thing to do on the side. I will be getting a degree in Automotive engineering or just mechnical engineering. I never said I am gonna use it all on upgrades, this is gonna be a long time project car over several years. I am really considering a used car which should save me about 5-10k. Also, Army provides education money through the GI bill AND the Army College fund, so my college edu is for the most part taken care of.

Also, Like I said before, half of my signing bonus will be saved (roughly 5-6k) and invested for my retirement or my own house. I will be moveing around quite a bit so a house is pointless (rangers move around a lot, your always in some base somewhere doing one of three things, watching ****, working out, or out in the field, who needs sleep).

People probably never responded to you because they couldn't understand what in the world you are trying to say. Its almost like reading a foreign language. Is there anyone that could possibly take the time out of their schedule and try to translate that???

"I know, but it doesn't cost anything to dream, or plan. I get an 11k enlistment bonus, invest 6 or so in a bike (transportation) and put the rest away with the family investor that is very trustworthy for retirement or for additional college expenses. As for re-enlistment, with the field I wish to go in I can get a 20k+ reenlistment bonus, which is only another 4 years. I will most likely out of country, so all my pay is saved for that amount of time. In 8 years I should have enough money to put a down payment on a house or pay off a car with extra's (possibley a used one that was babied)."
Sounds like your head is in the clouds man.
ok first things first. I am in the military and when i joined i learned the first of many lessons. A Bonus is totally taxable in a higher bracket. so congrats on the 11 grand bonus but cut your planning in half at best. my 4,000 was after 33-40% taxation more like 2400.
-ok with that said you are 18 and as said earlier. you need to own the car first and drive it and feel how it already handles before you start making plans to do this or that. do more research and be more realistic. your total didn't factor taxes, labor for installation, or cost of insurance at 18-25. it is able to be done just be realistic man.

I understand the pearls of wisdom you all are trying to pass on to this kid, but he didnt ask for anyone to assess his finances or provide him with focus and guidance for how he should spend his money. His thread was posted for someone to pass advice concerning his wishlist, i.e. "are the parts I have listed worth buying?" "anyone have any of these parts and how do they perform?"
I joined this club because I bought an RX-8 as a welcome home from Iraq present to myself and wanted to know more about the car from people who already have one. I also would like to know about the do's and don'ts of aftermarket upgrades as well. I didn't know that financial advice was a perk of the membership!
This guy is 18 and he is an adult. He is also in the army. Old enough to go to war, then old enough to spend his money however he deems necessary!!
