RP Super Cat State Emissions Quirks

*title edit*

I was getting my car inspected today and when the technician had my car on the dyno, and showed me the results:

At 15mph and 1800 RPMS
HC(PPM) - 249 - FAIL
CO(%) - 0.23 - PASS
NOx(ppm) - 963 - PASS

At 25mph and 1800 RPMS
HC(PPM) - 190 - FAIL
CO(%) - 0.24 - PASS
NOx(ppm) - 1019 - FAIL

I have no other engine related mods besides the supercat. This cat has been on since September 2006 and ~17,000mi. I purchased this cat from the group buy we were having that year. I have never had a CEL or flooded the engine and I've only stalled the car 3 times....Thoughts?

And my gas cap failed the pressure test too...AHHHH!

Did you have any problems with the test last year?

Are you having a CEL?

my rp supercat failed on me a while ago so i just went with a test pipe... IMO either change it back to stock or just get a test pipe. go all the way or dont go at all because its not worth it. the supercat is quite expensive too.

If you havent thrown a CEL, your cat hasnt failed. Call Chris at RP and ask him about it. I had same thing happen to me and turns out the shop that did the test didnt have the CANBUS technology that was needed to read the 8's OBDII, so they did the old school sniffer test, which the Supercat WILL fail every time. You have to find a shop with CANBUS technology.

I am 99% sure that the car doesn't have the technology to give the emmissions numbers that he had in the first post. That could only come with an old rod up the tail pipe test.
If they did a ODBII test, he would have passed. No error codes/no fail.

There still hope for me yet! I guess when I was talking to the service technician yesterday, he was saying how his computer might not be the most updated and that that's why he had to perform the tailpipe test. He was also saying my car may be ODBIII... Last year when I had the RP Supercat on, I had the dealership perform the emissions test (ODBII) and it passed no problems. The year before, the tailpipe/dyno test was performed with the following results (OEM cat):

At 15mph and 1494 RPMS
HC(PPM) - 2 - PASS
CO(%) - 0.05 - PASS
NOx(ppm) - 3 - PASS

At 25mph and 1677 RPMS
HC(PPM) - 2 - PASS
CO(%) - 0.06 - PASS
NOx(ppm) - 2 - PASS

Probably just going to take it back to a place that has the CANBUS technology or the dealership to have them do it again.

Thanks for the input everyone!

i think mine would fail a sniffer test too based on how my exhaust smells... however after several years now i still have no CEL and if the backfire pops are any indication, its running a free flowing as ever
