If they think it will be c.a.r.b. approved and "perfectly street-able" why would it still be off road use only? I am getting mixed signals.

frankly, I'd never pay more for stainless - SS has no appeal to me. We don't salt our roads...every bit of Aluminized piping I've had on a car worked fine.

Same here. I had aluminized t.pipes and down pipe on my TTZ for about 3 years and never had a problem. Even parked it on the sand near the beach down a couple of times. Never had a problem.

I've been debating taking my 8 to the local muffler shop that used to do all of my custom work and have them build me a midpipe w/cat. Does anyone have any experience with the magnaflow (carsound) high-flow cats? I had them on my supercharged HD f-150 and they were great. Has anyone here used them on a rotary before?

They have to advertise it that way to stay legal.

Ditto - do they spec any max temperature or flow characteristics? Anyone have any opinions about suitability with Canzoomer Stage 3 or Greddy turbo?

I'm waiting on the tech data from them currently, and will update it here. Not sure about CZ3 or Greddy Turbo...

Perfect timing, I brought it in today, and it weighed, drum roll please, 20.3 lbs. on the same scale.

(20.3) - (11.8) = 8.5 lbs lighter than stock. :D

I might be the only one with it installed so far, and my County does not require emissions testing. So, not sure if anyone else has tried, but RP said it passed, and they are waiting for C.A.R.B certification it seems.

Quoted from their website:
"It has been tested several times and can pass a smog test with flying colors. Because this is a new design, CARB and Federal emissions certificate is pending. "

For what it's worth, I passed smog on my 2nd gen with a Bonez high flow cat from Rotary Performance. Only main cat replacement, I had no precats anymore. I'm pretty sure this midpipe with cat has a similar design to the Bonez, since rotaries need a cat that can handle higher temps.

Yah. I passed really well, and I probably shouldn't have

Only emissions equipment I had was an airpump hooked straight up to the cat to feed it air at all times rather than only at idle, no ACV/EGR/Vac rack/Emissions Solenoids/etc., running a turbo fuel pump, all ports open instead of just 4 out of 6 (the 5/6 ports on the 2nd gen open at 3800), etc etc. Still passed, I blew like 74 HC's at cruise and 68 at idle. I also lowered my idle to about 500 rpms instead of 750.

I had to do a lot of "rigging" to make sure I'd pass but that's because I had circumstances. An rx8 shouldn't have a problem if all your other stuff is still in there.

Sounds GREAT - I have the Racing Beat exhaust and have been worried that the cat would simply be too loud. This sounds very good - gutsy but not over done. Good Job.

Sounds good, nothing too loud or too raspy.

Does anyone have a preference as to how big or what type of files you want to see?
