Rotary Performance Midpipe Problem
Hey guyz i am lookin to get the Rotary performance midpipe from www. rx7.com. I have the Greddy Sp2 Cat-Back on my 8 right now.... My concerns are that on the website they sell the midpipe but they also sell the Rp Midpipe bolt & Gasket kit........and they also sell the 02 simulaoter.........now do i need all of these things for the midpipe to ft and work correclty without messing anything up or throwing a check engine light?????????and does this bolt right up to the Sp2 exhaust without a problem?

you will need the bolt & gasket kit, but the o2 fooler doesn't work, so don't bother. I could never get my midpipe to fit with my borla exhaust so I had to have the ends cut off of both and a custom flange & gasket put on.

i have the o2 fooler and with a little hard wiring it worked. it is meant to trick you car into thinking what is read by the more forward o2 snsor is being read the same at the farther back o2 sensor. it will keep your CEL from staying on and eventually your car will lean back out. i'm still making some flames but thy have decreased alot since my ECU readjusted. now i just have a small leak around one of the gaskets but i will fix that as soon as its up on a lift...

They are coming out with a high flow cat pipe with no resonator very soon. How did you know you have an exhaust leak around one of the gaskets and where is it? I am curious due to my own situation. Everytime I talk to one of the exhaust people they say you don't need the gasket package if your car is new but I am not convinced of this.

i don't have any sound clips buti have the greddy cat back and b&b midpipe. it was very loud and raspy and souced like a CRX with a glass pack. so i had a high flow silencer welded on by the local muffler shop. it was only about $75 installed and now it sounds PERFECT!!! i will see if i can get some sound bits with my friends digicam.
as for the leak it is right at the header to mid-pipe flange. my Mazda dealership had it up on the lift doing the oil change and he showed me that. you can clearly see where its isn't sealed completely. you just have to be care full about tightening it due to the fact you might stress crack the welds.
as for the o2 sensor eliminator i recomend it so that your car will run more smoothly A/F wise. my car was running extremely rich before i got the eleiminator. i beleive jasperselectronics.com has the sim.
as for the backfiring...my car doesn't do it as bad. as soon as i fix that leak it should tone down even more. but i admit it is pretty bad *** when i am hitting the on ramp pushing hard in second...i shift at 9000rpm(with just a little quick rev while shifting) and BOOM!!! it sounds like a good backfire but people behind me see two nice big blue ***** of fire come shooting out!!! one night(on open highway) i shifted hard into 5th at around 9000 and we could see the oarange flames in my mirrors on the retaining wall...and it was loud and bright. i hit about 138mph then shut it down.
but there you have it.

gap is very thin but noticable...you can't really hear due to the loudness of the exhaust combo. i plan on just loosening them up and putting some form-a-seal gasket inthere to help seal it.

I will not lie it is louder than stock but I like it. It is not brutal but it can be in the early morning for close by people.......

If you decide to save money, as I have, you can get some Permatex "Ultra Copper" high-temp RTV silicone. It is a sealer which is intended for exhaust system use and is O2 sensor-safe. Everytime I swap back and forth between my two pipes I put a decent dose of this silicone on the exhaust flange and have had no problem. Another thing that will help seal the exhaust system is to re-tighten the bolts while the pipe is warmed up.
