Rev Hesitation - AEM/MS intake

Just spent last night/this morning installing (started at around 2AM) my MS intake and wow I love the sound it adds to my exhaust.

Question: Is some rev hesitation normal? At around 8k I get hesitation then it powers through. Happens moreso in neutral than when under load. Is this normal? I plugged the VFAD and made sure all hoses were tight and secure. Almost feels like how the engine hesitated when I powered up with no intake on at all, kind of feels like a lack of backpressure.

Any ideas? Only other engine mod I'm running is the JIC full ti exhaust...

I've had the same problem. When you bring the rpms up to 7 or 8000 rpm the car seems to die or hesitate. Mazda is replacing my engine right now.

you might want to check everything again, because I have the AEM intake which is the same intake excluding what name you have on the tubing. I have no hesitation just goes through the RPM band normally. just double check everything one more time.

I don't have an intake, but apparantly there are a couple screens in it than smooth out the airflow... did you put these back in, or leave them out?

They're in - I'll double check it all but I am 100% sure it is all tightened and whatnot (checked a billion times before putting back together). Maybe I'll just stop by mazda or set up an appt to have them figure it out (and in turn pay the big dough).

Edit: forgot to mention, no CELs. Also, are you guys running with the sock on or off?

Maybe the MAF sensor got dirty while transferring it to the new pipe. Clean it with some contact cleaner.

yah the MAF looked dirty on one side and clean on the other, I plan on cleaning it tomorrow. Something interesting though, the car only does the stutter at idle so I think it may have to do with how much air is available (I've noticed that when moving this is not a problem). Also, I took the sock off which helped which makes me think its a suffocation issue.

you are likely looking at the iat sensor.. the maf is the two wires way up in the tube..

the first thing i would do is an ecu reset... and go from there.

You're right about the sensor. Did ecu reset (both the 20 brake pedals + the hold mileage rest while turning key until "test") first thing when I installed. Kind of just seems like the engine is choking a bit, but like I said, it only happens when still. Out of curiosity I'll try coasting in neutral and revving to see if that makes a difference.

no sock, because taking off the front bumper is easy...so i clean the dry flow filter about every month. surprisingly, the filter doesn't really get dirty, so i feel the sock isn't neeeded.
