replacement cat?

hey im still new to the rx8 as i got one coming back from iraq a couple months ago. ive tried searching through google to find OEM ones but couldnt get much results. Its the cat right after the header, not on the midpipe. i know in cali theres both a federal and state CAT. so im guessing its federal. anyways, i was just wondering what good replacements there are out there and how hard it is to instal yourself. thanks guys.

did your cat burn up?
I'm pretty sure Federal emission warranty covers them to about 70,000 miles. the RX-8 only has one cat (even in CA) but buying a new one will be very expensive.

do you need it to pass a smog test?
a very popular aftermarket cat is the RP High Flow Cat. www.rx7.com There have been a few cars in CA that have passed a smog test using that cat. (assuming the tech doesn't crawl under the car and notice it's an aftermarket version)

take a look around in the F/S subforum here, every now and then you'll find one for sale.

awesome, well looks like i wont be going to the dealership, cause they were the ones who told me theres two cats for cali emissions. but ive never had it on a lift to see for my self, just checked by kneeling down. but yea, i hit a speed bump pretty bad and it totally f'ed up the cat and has crap rattling inside, so i think its clogged now, and my rpms are dropping low and exhaust has second intervals between each drown seeing as i bought it without the mufflers i can tell the difference. so with the federal warranty, do i just take it to a mazda dealership and they are forced to change it?

you will have trouble getting it covered under warranty due to the visible damage that speed bump probably left.
