reduce weight

I am thinking about removing my back seats for subs/amps. I don't use the back seats often, and I hate the extra weight of the 3rd person in the car.

Anyone have an idea what the seats might weigh?

What else can be removed to reduce weight? Some of my ideas are....
  • Back Seats
  • A/C (damn thing sucks anyway!)
  • Move battery to trunk (not a loss of weight, but better distribution?)

anyone else have any other ideas? i dont want it to look like ****, but the extra acceleration from shaving off some weight would be nice!

The seats don't weigh much at all. You could remove a lot of the insulation as well, and get lighter wheels. Have fun if this is a daily driver.

If you hate the extra weight of a third person and want to lighten the car why bother if you are just going to fill it back up with amps and subwoofers? That doesnt make alot of sense to me.

My AC rocks :-) as for weight reduction....hmmm.... guess you could remove the back seats, replace the front seats with lighter recaro ones, replace the hood with Carbon Fiber, Yank out AC..but I would keep that...no honey bunny wants to be sweating it out in your car in the summer heat.

What else.....I replaced the steel scissor jack with an aluminum one from my 300zx. That probably saved 5 lbs.

There was a big weight reduction thread at one point, that may be a good place to start for more ideas. Though I think you'll find all the usual suspects like Ti exhaust, wheels, etc...

I got the titanium exhaust. Maybe lighter wheels, aluminum lug nuts. Swaping to carbon fiber hood won't do much, as our stock hoods are aluminum. If you want good weight loss, definitely look at some nice lighter rims like the SSR Competitions, or GT2 (on sale now at tire rack), maybe some lighter tires when the original ones wear out. Good unsprung weight reduction.

Remember, there is a big difference between unsprung weight and sprung weight. Get lighter rims, titanium exhaust, lighter cat or midpipe, the hood wont do anything, ours are already light, and some carbon fiber hoods even weigh more than our stock ones do. dont rip out the back seat (you just killed 1/2 the comfortability of the car), keep the ac and do the ac mod that is on the website. I just did the ac mod yesterday my own way, and it seems to be good for now, i havent really heated up the engine or experienced weather above 85 today. Otherwise, i think the mod will work great (its supposed to cool down the ac like 5-8 degrees in hot weather.

you know i just had a thought... why the heck do we have a jack if we don't have a spare?

I've used that fix-a-flat stuff on a diff car before and never needed the jack. And if someone is bringing me a tire, they can bring a jack too!
I think I'm gonna take that wimpy scissor jack out tomorrow...

titanium exhuast, aftermarket intake, race pipe, yank the ac, take out all insulation, replace seats, plastic windows.

Most of all:

Lose weight!

Buy a dry cell battery. Use the old one for the winter.

That's a pretty damn good point! I understand why we have one, but why we carry it around is beyond my imagination.

Another way to reduce the weight in your car ... stay healthy and eat right; lose the pounds yourself! It's good for you AND your car :-p
