Racing Beat's Single Outlet Race Exhaust System
Alright, so far the update on the findings of the new exhaust shows very promising results! Below 90db,12lbs lighter and more power than the street version. I know this isn't breaking news or anything, but I was just wondering if you guys are willing to go with this set-up for the performance gains over the awkward missing outlet? Will Racing Beat fabricate a new rear bumper to 'fill' the gaping hole? Comments?

That have never crossed my mind. Racing Beat makes quality products that are sure to comply with all states... At least I have never seen a product that would harm itself by not being legal to use in most areas.

Ahh... missed that when I went there this morning. Just a one line blurb about it. Got it.
Thanks!
I await this unit with open arms and a heavy foot. It sounds like an auto-xers dream. Lighen up the car, and keep the sound within the legal limits at most venues. If it gains HP? Even better... but that's not a 'big' deal for auto-x stock class.
Whoohoo!

Several autocrossers presented the idea of a Race Muffler for the RX-8 to us. They wanted something that was 1) lightweight, 2) met the 92-93 db limit that is imposed on the auto cross course, 3) and made more power.
This really isn't intended as a "street" muffler, although it can certainly be used for that purpose if you want. Eliminating the second outlet, tips, and reducing the system to a single outlet offered substantial weight savings. We fabricated a prototype and ran it on the stock Renesis engine on or dyno and obtained very respectable power gains over the stock and REV8 system.
The sound level increase is certainly noticeable, however it is not objectionable. From inside the car the sound level is increased, most noticeably around 5000-6000 RPM, then the tone moderates at higher RPM. From outside the car, you can definitely hear the RX-8 coming and going, but it has more of a "tuned-V6" note than anything harsh or buzzy. Our initial sound level tests with the db meter proved promising. We intended to test the muffler on the autocross course this coming weekend, but it appears that the weather (and our test driver) may require that we push it back a week.
Since this intended primarily as a race unit, we do not intend to offer any type of “cover” for the second muffler tip opening. If you want the ultimate no-frills performance exhaust for your RX-8, this will be definitely worth considering. If the testing goes as planned, we are looking at further reducing the weight of this unit as we continue the development of this project.
Let me know if you have any further questions, however I can’t give out any “numbers” unit we get deeper into the project.

The intent of this system is for race applications, the design of the canister will not permit the addition of another outlet tip.
Maybe you can do what Mazda is offering on the Mazdaspeed 6, you can mount a "fake" tip in the bumper to give that appearnace that something is really there! (Actually, they have placed a large shiny tip end in the bumper, with the smaller "real" tip placed in the middle of this tip opening.)

Remember, the idea of this exhaust is more "function" than "appearance". It is hard to make a direct comparison between this race exhaust and a "street" system because it will be much louder, and will be missing a tip. Some of the more hardcore RX-8 owners might consider running this on their car full-time, but I personally find the sound of the REV8 exhaust much more pleasing for daily driving.
