hey fellow 8 owners! i have a question about the triple rotor motor. Is it a regular rx8 motor with another "cylinder" welded onto the side, with modifications to the crank, or a purpose built motor?
The 20B (3x rotor) is not a regular RX-8 motor. It in fact was never sold in a USA spec Mazda. HERE is a little about it. Depending on your level of expertise putting one in your 8 can cost $20,000-$40,000.
i'm sure that is definitely one way that you can do it...my dad and i are considering buying a used rx8 motor and just experimenting on it, just to see how much fun we can have with it
I think "welding" 2 13B's together would work better than welding part of an escentric to a 13b. The 3rotor position of lobes are spaced evenly between 3, a 13b is spaced opposite each other.
20B is 3 rotor specifically made can get them for prob around 5k unless u go to Puerto Rico and get used for decently cheap i believe(they love those motors around there)......but the 26B is 4 rotor and that's what u needed...
the 8 never came with the 3 rotor (at least not in the US) and of course all of us rotorheads would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see the 3 rotor come into the US but will NEVER see if due to emissions
