i hope you guys still have your stock flywheels/clutches laying around, IN CASE there's a problem with the parts and RB needs them back for analysis and send new ones over... always good to keep old functioning parts as backups... lol

I went & re-read the article where they installed the UR flywheel and they said they had a bad "engine shake" that worsened with RPM increase. This was due to an unbalanced flywheel installation (although the UR unit has an integrated counterweight). Not sure if this might be the issue.

Hey where did you find that Article? Is it on their site or something? I think its a problem with it being unbalanced or not aligned right. I just hope it doesnt mess up my Trans! Do you think it would?

I have the RB flywheel and stock clutch/PP and have not had ANY vibration issues. I would definitely be concerned about the install. They may not have used the clutch alignment tool properly or the flywheel might be out of balance for some reason (not seated right?) I'm sure they will figure it out when they take it apart but I don't know what the excess vibration might be doing to your egine or clutch...

I got my Racing beat clutch and SR Motorsports flywheel installed yesterday. I have the same kind of vibration thing going on as you guys are describing. I haven't been above 4,000 rpms though cuz im still breaking it in obviously. The vibration doesn't really bug me too much, I just figured it was something that happens when u go through this type of procedure.

rxeighter, you and I installed the ACT Prolite flywheel when I was down in ATL. Did you swap it out for the RB wheel after that?

My guess on the vibe issue is that the pilot bearing may have been inadvertently damaged during the re-install process causing the input shaft to orbit from time to time. Either that, or the geniuses that work at our favorite dealerships have left out a bolt or two during the process.

Naw, I kept the ACT Prolite flywheel, as Racing Beat sent the wrong one, which refunded my money.

If you refer to the previous post from me here, someone else under my login said I had the RB flywheel -- sorry for the confusion.

I am editing it now...

7 ACT Prolite installs w/ stock clutch and no problems or vibrations. I would be curious to know which counterweight was provided.

We've installed RB and Mazdaspeed too also w/no problems.
If the counterweight provided was for a third gen it would cause the vibration due to imbalance. I am betting on a clutch problem more than a flywheel issue.

if it were a flywheel issue, you'd feel it even in neutral. the problem lies within the clutch kit. you really can't mis-align the clutch disc since you wouldn't be able to slide in the input shaft. how is the drive shaft connected to the transmission? is there a dampener sandwiched between? i wonder if these companies have enough complaints to actually start doing an investigation.

Yeah, there are so many ways things could have gone wrong but they installed my original parts back on and everything is fine. No noise............ Nothing. The only thing I can think of is the Racing Beat Clutch Setup, even if I dont want to admit it. I've only heard Great things about them. But everyone isnt perfect............

No issues either with the stock components.....drives much much better than before............ my mazdaspeed flywheel and rb pressure plate had a lot..of hot spots. so something wasnt' installed or done right. time will tell when Rb is done testing the parts to see what is the culprit

so the common item between all you guys with clutch trouble is the RB CLUTCH ASSEMBLY, not the flywheel itself... and both of you had no problem once the stock flywheel/clutch is reinstalled... something fishy is going on... hmm...

Gentlemen,

Let me shed some light on what we know to date with regards to this matter. I know that everyone wants answers to this issue right NOW, but this reported vibration issue has only arisen within the past several days and we are still evaluating these components.

The clutch components that we are offering for the RX-8 are the exact same components that we have been selling trouble free for earlier RX-7 applications for many years. Some of the largest and most well-know driveline suppliers in the industry supply the components that we offer for these applications. Over the years we have had very few incidents of problems associated with their components.

At this point we have only had 2-3 customers that have voiced concerns regarding this clutch package. The packages were assembled with similar pressure plates and clutch discs, but with different aftermarket flywheels. We have thoroughly inspected one set of components, and are awaiting the arrival of another set for inspection. Our initial inspection and measurement of these returned components have not shown any obvious defects or problems. We are trying to determine the installation methods that were utilized when installing these components in order to rule out installation error as the source of the problem.

In the coming days we will be installing these components on RX-8 applications for further evaluation. When we know more, I will post our findings. As always, I invite you to contact me (or our General Manager, Jim Tanner) by phone so that we can personally discuss any problem that you might be having with your Racing Beat components.

Best regards,

Jim Langer

Guys,
I've been following this thread with interest, as we (RotaryNews.Com) have been beta testing pieces for RB, on our RN.COM project RX-8, over the last +/- 12 months and have not seen a single failure or major anomaly on any of their RX-8 products. Granted, we have not installed this particular product yet, but I personally have been dealing with Racing Beat since the early '80s and can attest to their commitment to engineering and quality. RB has some of the best rotary parts, as far as quality goes, in the Rotary world! The guys are stand-up and if there is an issue, they'll get to the bottom of it and let everyone know.

Just a little assurance from a long time rotorhead!

Jim -- I certainly appreciate your post. It only solidifies your company's leadership, and commitment to quality products that work.
