A.P. Pulley and CEL

Hey guys, to make a very long story short I need some ideas on how to get my CEL off after I have installed my Agency Power pulley.

I only have a mazdaspeed cai, which I ran for about ½ the summer with no problem. Then I had a well known mechanic in the area install the A.P. pulley, and I gave him the instructions on the DIY section of how to install it and do all the resets.

It was running fine until I accelerate hard, and then the light blinks a few times and goes off.
After this happened about 3 times the light stayed on.

I have done both the 20x pedal reset a few times, and the odo push reset a few times. The CEL was still on, so I disconnected the battery, and the CEL stayed on and I still get the CEL flashing when I accelerate hard.

Any ideas on how to get this off? I know I can take it to autozone or someplace and they wipe the code, but if it still flashes when I accelerate hard, then I am assuming it will just come back on again.

Any help is much appreciated.

Really? Is it a problem to run with a misfire, I don't understand why no one else is having this issue.

So you are saying that the AP is causing the engine to misfire when I accelerate hard? Is there anyway to correct this.

Do you have enough oil. When it starts to run low I think it'll blink at you as well when you accelerate hard.

How about actually scanning it and finding the problem instead of just clearing it?

I know it sounds crazy but it just might work

I will check again, but I checked it when I filled up last time and it was fine, right in the middle of the zone.

Last time, (I had this problem a while ago and took off the pulley and then mazda had to do a whole bunch of things and finally got the light off, so I decided to put the pulley back on) the CEL was a misfire in 2. I guess that is probably the next step, check the code.

maybe aux ports aren't opening, that use to happen to me when i would accelerate above 6k and my cel would blink and then stay on.

I was thinking it may be something like that, but I can take it up to redline without any CEL if I accelerate rather slowly. It's only when I accelerate quickly that the CEL blinks.

The best clue we can get is the cel code, try to get that.

If Ray(BHR) doesn't have any then there is always www.Mazmart.com , www.finishlineperformance.com , or maybe even www.fluidmotorsports.com
You should go to the vendors section and poke around.

Dude... thanks for reading my post, as I said I have already done all the resets many times, both the 20x brake and the odo reset. As I have also disconnected the battery.

I will try to get the code today or tomorrow. Again just to make sure everyone knows, I HAVE DONE ALL THE RESETS, THE 20X AND THE ODO, MANY TIMES and my CEL is still on and still blinking under hard accel.

Have you checked to make sure the trigger wheel is still attached with the pulley? Is it possible the person doing the install might have thought it was part of the stock setup and discarded it?

If you've done the reset and it's still misfiring then I'd start by looking at the trigger wheel. The pulley is held with 4 bolts and the belts themselves. You can easily get it off with a basic set of tools and about an hour.

Hmmm, is the trigger wheel the backplate with the two keyholes that need to be lined up?

If not, what is it and how do I check it?

Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.

Yeah, it looks like a sproket behind the pulley.

The trigger wheel is attached.

The code is 301... misfire in one.

I had it cleared and the same CEL blinked again under hard acceleration. I did all the resets again and same thing. I am guessing the next time I accelerate hard the light will come on and stay on.

Any one know what else to try?

You don't have any other CELs?

I would guess your coils are dying

Yeah, thats the only CEL.

Last year when I had a similar problem they replaced the coils, so I am assuming its not that.

Thanks for all your help guys, keep any ideas comming. There has got to be some way to fix this.
