Opinions on TurboXS Cat Back coupled with BHR Midpipe

Hello all. Tomorrow I am going to order the TurboXS Cat back system for my 8. I am going to completely skip out on their ricey mid pipe and just keep the OEM cat on. If I'm pleased with the sound/volume I will probably just keep the OEM cat on. However, I am considering swapping it out for a resonated midpipe.

From what I've heard, the BHR midpipe sounds great with the TurboXS cat back, and I think if I decide to go catless, then this would be my choice. Any opinions?

Also, I've searched and searched and cannot seem to find a sound clip/video of the sound of the BHR and TurboXS cat back! Anyone who has the TurboXS cat back and BHR mid pipe, can you upload or direct me to a video of it?

Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

I've had this combination for several years and gotten many compliments about the sound.

The exhaust produces a lot of lower bass tones than other exhausts. I really like the combination and it sounds much much better with the BHR midpipe than it does with the pipe that comes with the TurboXS kit.

Well worth it if you're looking for quality sound. Also, since the TurboXS is a true 3-inch setup there is an opportunity for flow increases.

Be sure to check with Charles to see if he can make the pipe to match the size. I recall seeing posts previously he was able to do so as long as you plan to use the TurboXS system.

My BHR mated up no problem with my TXS catback. Be sure to specify if you are at or mt if you're getting a bung welded...

The only trick with fitment was having properly sized bolts.

Flashwing covered all other points. Very similar experience here.

FYI, I had the BHR with the "New" TXS catback, and it was stupid loud inside the cabin.

There is a huge difference in sound between the old and new TXS, and it was far too loud inside the cabin that I had to sell it.

New being the one with titanium (blued) tips? Mine (2nd version) was crazy loud with the txs midpipe.

1st version melted shrouds
2nd version just fine
3rd version too loud?

I wonder if 2 and 3 are the same and we just have different opinions on what constitutes loud.

My wife would certainly say my setup is loud

Yea sorry the 2nd version (blue tips, i think there are only two versions). I personally thought it was very drone-y in the interior, to a point that i covered the entire trunk and back seats with fatmats with hopes that it would help, but it didn't. Dont get me wrong, sounded sexy on the outside, but i just couldn't bear long drives with its cabin noise.

Actually I have chrome tips from the second run. The first required trimming of the shrouds (I think - might be mistaken as it predates me).

The current offering has the tips blued.

So what I'm gathering here is that the BHR midpipe won't fit on the TXS system without custom fitting, and that you need different bolts to match it up perfectly? Does anyone have any videos of your combination? (Easy_E1 I was asking for a video of TXS and BHR, not just the BHR midpipe, I've seen plenty of those.)

I appreciate the replies.

It's easy to bolt-up, you just need a slide on flange.

Keep in mind I am turbocharged.

the bolt issue is a known problem with TXS, not BHR.

I know this is purely opinionated, but without a turbo, I'm worried the BHR and TXS combo would still be too ricey/loud. I'm going for noticeably louder, but not stupid loud like the full TXS system. Any thoughts on maybe TXS and RB Dual Res mid pipe?

The packing in the RB will burn out. At least in the front resonator. In a short time. So you will be louder than the first day in no time. And a little extra added dead weight. But you have an open mind to make your own decisions.
BHR will never burn out. And the sound will not change over time.
I may be kind of partial. But I would not buy something that is going to be different (sound) than what I bought in a short time.

I have the BHR + TurboXS setup and I personally think it sounds great. It's on the loud wife but that's what I like. The TurboXS with the oem cat sounds really good also.

I installed this setup about a week ago with the most recent version of the TXS catback. Looks and sounds great! I had to grind down the hex part of the studs on the BHR so they would fit through the slots on the TXS plate. I also had to use the shorter stock springs and donut because the ones that came with the TXS wouldn't allow the nut to start threading. I'm very satisfied with my decision. Highly recomend.

didn't read the whole thread, sorry, but this has to be said:

I literally just put my turboxs catback on yesterday with OEM cat.

I'm uninstalling it tomorrow. I'm registering 114.5 db in the cabin! windows up!
Its too loud and it isn't a good sound to me.
Apparently this is their third generation (?), and whatever the changed, ruined it.

If you want it, its yours. Hell, you're only 3 hours north of me anyway.

Are you sure you have any material left in the cat? While it would be loud, I wouldn't think you'd get readings like that with an open exhaust after the cat.

Positive, the cat was left untouched, not to mention sounded fine before the swap.
Also 114.5 was peak noise level I read, average was 103db, and idle at 89db.
It is an iphone app, so its possible its not the most accurate measurement. That said, its still to damn loud for me.

UPDATE

So I talked to summit racing, whom I purchased my Turboxs Catback from, and they basically said **** off, and referred me to Turboxs, Inc.

Talked to them, and they are great folks! They said as near as they could determine that mine is defective, and they're UPS'ing me a new one today.

I believe that even working properly though, this set up is too loud for my personal taste.
I'll be listing it for sale/trade soon in the classified area. Accepting PM's now though

Yea I noticed when I first put on my Turbo XS exhaust it was loud as FUUUUUHHHH.... But I kinda accepted it because I had the AP resonated mid cat delete.. so i kinda figured. So I had an extra Long resonator for my WRX 3" pipe and I modified the exhaust. I put it in and it sound was great, took out a Ton of the rasp and Brap that was in it... I did notice however, it seemed a bit less flow.. So just about a week ago.. (after about 10 months of use.) I took out the resonator and put back in the regular pipe.. It sounds exactly the same not.. Way less louder than before.. I wonder if there is a break in period to dampen the sound. Also my Turbo XS did let out a bunch of fiberglass after I installed it that all has stopped about a month or so after use.. So now Im am very happy with the sound It just took time i guess to break in..

I'm sure thats true, most stuff like this does. I just think I would be happier with the simi-stock sounding Racing beat rev8 at this point.

If anyone wants to trade, the replacement one should be here next week- brand new! haha
