Don't waste your money on anything from rx8performance.

Myself and others have been using the FAL setups for years without issue. My FAL 420 versus stock. You can also run the larger 490 setup for about 500-600 more cfm. But I am turbocharged and in south Texas and the 420 is the best cooling mod hands down Just get the CSF radiator and the FAL 420 or 490 and you will be set.

I have the FAL420 and CSF radiator combo. Works well on the street, haven't had the chance to try it at the track yet.

9k, what are you running for oil cooling?

Comparing this to a CSF and Flexalite setup is like comparing a Hyundai to a Corvette. They don't cost the same....but they don't work the same either😎

I have custom lines and a large center mount BEHR oil cooler. But the stock coolers and lines are all you will ever need. If you want to upgrade, have your stock coolers hot tanked and repaired, it usually runs about $200 for both stock coolers.

If you live in the rust belt then line failure and cooler failure due to corrosion are somewhat common. But you can typically find good stock oil coolers down south.

I think it was this place that another member used and was happy with. But search, he had a thread on the topic of restoring them IIRC.

Very true lol I picked up another 8 and am shopping around for stuff right now. Core is basically scrap so looking around $4k for a new engine from marko at Forcefed performance in canada, bhr, or oj imports. May throw in a new tranny. Then planning on another 2k ish range on overhauling the cooling system.

Do plan on turbocharging after I get rid of the miata. So hard to sell her tho :*(

More so worried about oil temps in stop and go traffic. May have to get a baby fan for the oil coolers. I think it was bigcajun saying something about seeing pretty high oil temps even on the street?

Fans on the oil coolers don't do crap, we installed and tested the rx8performance oil cooler fan kit and aside from it just being shitty overall in terms of quality, it did absolutely nothing to drop temps at speed or at idle. You are better off just getting more clean air ducted to the coolers instead (Mazdaspeed bumper FTW). But I suggest monitoring oil temps, you might be surprised at how good the stock coolers are.

Frequent changes of oil also work wonders in the 1000-3000 OC frequency range. Oil as a heat transfer medium is your friend.

Agreed. I was also looking around and saw some 2010 f150 fans with a crazy amount of flow for $150 at the dealership. The reviews online were pretty nuts to. Doubt they'd fit in an 8 tho. Would need a controller for em to.

We have customers running our dual pass radiator with our performance fan shroud combo with great success. Customers running these units are often turbocharged, supercharged, SCCA road course track cars as well as daily driven street cars. If your end goal is going forced induction or if you plan to use the car for any competition events the cooling system is one area you don't want to skimp or cut corners.

This goes for oil cooling as well as the water cooling systems. We do offer a upgraded twin oil cooler set if you need improved oil cooling or if your coolers are just beat up/corroded or if you have leaking hoses.

Our oil cooler fan kits are available individually for both the left and right sides for the OE coolers. Obviously if your spending a lot of time in bumper to bumper traffic airflow across the cooler with a fan is much better than not moving air across the cooler. We have been selling and installing these since 2009.

Davs, spotted this on Amazon. My buddy Hoss-05 has this setup with a Mazmart rad on his Turbo RX-8 and it works wonderful. IIRC he paid $400+.

Holy crap..that thing draws a ton of current....It pulls 29A :(

The 420 is 22A.

Either way it's hasn't been an issue. The 490 also comes with the FAL controller if you wish to use that instead of the factory wiring.

How much of a tighter fit is the 490 over the 420? It's only another $5 on amazon right now, but I noticed it's almost twice as wide as the 420.

They both fit nor problem, the 490 is not tight at all.

I've been researching the FAL 420 vs FAL 490. The 490 is about $70 more here in Canada.
Would you guys see the 490 (with the extra 500 cfm) as a useful upgrade over the 420 on a car that is mainly a track car?
