Obx ??

Anyone here ever try the OBX Catback Exhaust or the headers for the rx8 04-07 models??
Curious to know if they are worth $299.00 + shipping for the catback and $195.00 + shipping for the headers??

Thanks

No!!! Headers are not worth it, especially that cheap of headers. I dont know of anyone having the cat-back, and i dont think it will be high on quality seeing its price

Chet, search before you discredit a company, I've learned that the hard way

OBX is ok, the walls are pretty thin but people do have them on their car and they work just fine

I personally know a person who has their headers on a car, and he says it is worth the money since they are cheap anyways, and they won't die on you that easily..............

they are Korean brand btw

I have the OBX...

you get what you pay for... So if OBX cost 200 and the next comparison is something like 1,200. Can you really expect a 6 times gain? I wish...

hows does it sound? Got that nice deep tone, or does it have that ricer sound to it?

Can you post a sounds clip?

eh, my exhaust sounds like (what I would define as) rice-ish.

I can tell you after the header install you will get a deeper tone, and the 3-5000 RPM range will most probably become a little raspier. Dependant on exhaust I'm going to guess...

It really opens up the 7,000 + range though. Out of all the exhaust/intake modifications my OBX header gave me the biggest noticeable increase

well personally, i would save that 300 bucks for the header, and buy a RP supercat or resonated midpipe. but keef did say that it opens up the high end, so if you want, go for it. i just dont think the quality would be that high, especailly in important places like the welds

I haven't seen anyone make a good header yet. OBX has always made cheap parts. I personally wouldn't use them. I don't care if someone else does and swears by them. They aren't proven to do anything. A paper bag full of steaming dog crap is free but I wouldn't justify smearing it all over my car just for that reason alone. There's more to doing a mod than just price.

i was actually thinking of getting that RP Supercat since I currently have a new stock catback from my warranty.
My questions are:
1. Does it smell like gasoline all the time?
2. How deep does that sound make?
3. How much more of an increase in performance are we speaking? 2-3 HP gain? how much - LBS off?
4. Last but not least does it shoot flames? =) Cool factor huh?

Thanks

thanks RG, that is what i have been saying.

JA, the super cat shouldnt release the gas smell, cause it is still a cat, it should make a decent change in sound. a midpipe would make more of a gain in hp, cause its more freeflowing, but you might see a 5 whp gain, which is really good, compared to the other bolt ons that only yeild 1-2 hp increase. oh yea, you might see more flames, but not as much as with a midpipe. and just a little FYI, if you are looking into a PCM reflash, make sure you get the Racing Beat Street flash, not the Race, cause the race will melt your supercat

the supercat is actually pretty good, and it isn't as loud as the midpipe, I would recommend it over a midpipe (granted I have 1) but if u want cool factor, theres nothing that beats having a constant trail of flames running from your exhaust hitting nitrous at 5k+rpm on 3rd gear XD

after reading alot of threats, I also consider to buy obx cat back, I really don't care about the gains but only for the sport tone, it is half price of the least next system, if some one has obx on your rx-8, please let us hear it, thanks.

There are a couple posts from people that have bought the OBX cat-back. I think there are some sound clips on one of them, too

HAHA

Ya, I was a fan of the "supercat" until it super melted my rear O2 sensor, then blocked my Y-pipe. I had too cut and weld the Y-section out too remove the cat material. Yall have fun going down that road. Hopefully you will be kinder drivers...

And the OBX headers are the same design as RE-AMEMIYA

Yes I'll agree there a cheap knock off, welcome to reality. But OBX is cheap enough to let you question RE-AMEMIYA if any gains exist. Your asking me if I can "feel" a difference??? Well duh, have you seen the stock header design?

They'll give you about 3-4 peak hp gain. No header will give you more than that. If anyone says theirs do there are really only 2 possibilites. One is that they are lying and the other is that their testing methods are flawed.

I've been averaging 100 bucks per horse... 3-4 ponies seems about right for the price...
