Now Sponsored by K&N ...
I got a call from K&N yesterday and they are going to debut their newly designed intake on our RX-8 at Hot Import Nights here in Kansas City on the 16th. I will get the FIRST intake available. They are going to make a couple this week. They tell me that they redesigned the heat shield and chaged the piping as well as the filter. The main difference is that it's quieter.
I'll keep you all posted and give pics when the intake arrives. |
awesome, cant wait to see pics
|
But.......will it still get a 9.5hp gain?!?!?!?! LOL
|
^hahaha doubt full...maybe if it was first tested in hot weather.then had the intake put on....cranked up the a/c in the bay, turned on a huge fan.......then..............maybe..:p

On a serious note, do you have any specs on it yet? Also, please let us know your opinion as to performance/sound once it's installed. |
Will do. Max assured me that it will deliver at least 9.5 hp.
|
Just like the first one did right? Or did they miss a decimal point before?

Wonder if K&N can provide specific dyno charts (before and after) for the RX8 showing this type of increase....... |
They tested the new K&N intake on the RX8 recently in one of the import magazines & it got about 3.5 peak hp, about 5-6 throughout the rev range.

Since when is negative feedback or skepticism considered a hi-jack? |
Here's some positive feedback.
I added a k&n filter and breather filter to my 8 and I now have +45hp more. Pic of filter here. :D |
congratulations, keep us posted ;)
|
i'll believe it when i see the dyno chart from a member, not K & N.
|
Just for the record, being given a free intake to test is not the same as being sponsored. When they are willing to give you money and products in turn for having their name on your race car, that is being sponsored. I know a few people that have been beta testers for Racing Beat in the past. This does not make them sponsored by Racing Beat.
|
Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. If it wasnt for the garbage they put out early on for the 8, most people wouldn't be so skeptical. Even being a free intake, I probably would have passed on this offer, just for GP.

I'm sorry... let me re-phrase this thread just for you. I got a free intake from K&N for letting them use my car in their booth. They paid for my registration and they will be supplying me with parts for all of my cars. Feel better now? Yes I did a search also and no-one posted this anywhere. Some people kill me. |
sorry to let you guys know but ive had the "first" kit made for over 3 moths ago, i was protyping the kit for kn so you guys at SEMA
|
Would it look like this one?

any info on price or official release date?
|
That is close to what he described to me. We'll see here pretty soon.

Those dyno variance articles apply to anything with wheels. Just because its not 8 specific doesn't mean its not valid.
They merely point out that by switching which dyno you run at, you can see upwards of a 30 whp variance...without any other factors. Hell even swapping from dos to windows on a dynojet shows a variance! This is CAR INDEPENDENT. You can even dyno a bicycle if you got the calves. http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/e...bble/index.html http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0...dash/index.html http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/e...c_technobabble/ http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0...dyno/index.html The second set of articles go over how the mainstream manufacturers sometimes tweak dyno numbers...but running the car till they get a gain, restrapping it, turning the ac on for one run, off for another, dynoing on a different day, dynoing on a different dyno, etc etc. These are just articles explaining how a manufacturer can dyno and show a 10 whp gain, and then a member puts it on there car and gets 2 whp from it. |
Now I understand what you mean. Yeah I agree, that is definitely possible. I will do this though. I'll dyno with and without the intake to see what happens. I've got a hook up here in KC where I can get the dyno for free so we'll see what happens.
As far as dynoing the car goes, I've heard that I need to disconnect the ABS sensors and such to get the car to stay in a normal fuel map. Is this true? |
Yep, need to disconnect. I heard removing the fuse does the samething. Can anyone else confirm this?
|
Free intake > paying for one.
Keep us posted. |
I don't like the KN, it freaking ideal too much when the car is not moving. My whole car shakes, feel like break down lol. And sometimes my RMP gauge drop between 500 to 0 rpm, and the car shuts off.
|
k&n GUARANTEES at least 10 whp from this! i saw it in the latest issue of car and driver i believe.
|
What is the latest info on the new K&N Air Intake. I saw an ad that claimed a 10 hP gain.

Not true at all...simply do the 7-second-dsc button push...that's it. No wrenches required. |
