Newbie with a question

I did some searching and a lot of reading and couldn't really find what I was looking for and thought all you nice people out there wouldn't flame me andtry and help me out.

I've researched a lot about the rx7 and 8 and rotory engines. I know a lot more about problems in the 7 than I do the 8 so I wanted to know is the 8 such a night mare to mod vs the 7? I mean its kinda a known fact that 7 has a 3 mod rule and after that you have to get an ECU and tune it every time you upgrade anything and possibly even when there are drastic temp changes....I'm not saying it doesn't run just saying doesn't run right.

My thing is I'm considering buying this as a DD that I want to heavily mod...yes eventually Turbo....but is it going require a lot of tunning or can I just slap on some boltons for a while to sattisfy my tunning bug....

Also I am not a newbie to tunning and hae had several cars that I have modded ( 98 Acura CL which if any of your know is hard due to there are no parts made for it hardly, 02 IS300, 04 G35 coupe, 02 Z3 3.0i) so I'm quit familar with tunning and mods....

Thanks for the help

bolt ons dont do much for the 8, it is very espensive and nothing you buy will give you big increases in hp. If you want to make big numbers you will need FI

Thanks guys for the help and I understand both of your points and appreciate your concern but still my big question is will this car respond to bolt ons like the 7? I understand that it doesn't resond well to bolt PBS but it does resond in a positive way rather than a negative way like the 7 right?

why would 99% of the people on this forum mod their cars if it had a negative effect? The only negative will be in your bank account

You can heavily mod any car and have it as a daily driver as long as none of your mods are crazy. You should look towards a cost/chance of nuking your car/handling basis of moding.

The more expensive the mod the more costly it's usually going to be to get the car running again if something goes wrong

The more engine mods you do the higher the chance becomes of one of the mods going wrong. Intakes, exhausts, plugs, wires, access port... all things you can do without risking the engine. Once you go FI then all bets are off. Lots of people have gone FI without issue, but those people researched tons first, most did not do aggressive tunes, and most of the successful people who have gone FI are also very knowledgeable about their cars.

Handling should also be looked at... lots of ways to mod the handling of your car... shocks, springs, coilovers, struts, sway bars, wheels, tires.

Long story short.. mod away.. but keep an eye on what you're doing
