uhmm i ono where ur coming from, but last time i was at RB (last month) they had a renesis engine on the dyno and were testing its long term efficiency and forced induction capabilities for mazda.
AND
RB did aid in the concept race prepped miata that made a US tour

why would Mazdaspeed want to copy RB's design when RB's design is not really anything more then a stock box with a conical filter in it and no baffles for noise??

K&N makes a wide variety replacement filters with an internal molded velocity stack inlet (much larger OD than the pipe inlet) and even extra filter capacity on the cone end, if I got the MS one I'd probably swap that cone off for one of those instead

RX-4950 Product Specifications
Product Style: Round Tapered Universal Air Filter
Base Outside Diameter: 6 in (152 mm)
Flange Inside Diameter: 2.5 in (64 mm)
Flange Length: 2 in (51 mm)
Flange Type: Centered
Height: 5.5 in (140 mm)
Top Outside Diameter: 5 in (127 mm)
Top Style: X-Stream
Top Material/Finish: None
Filter Re-Oiling Amount: 0.96 oz (28 ml)
Footnote 1: Filter has molded-in velocity stack
Weight: 1.5 lb (0.7 kg)
Product Box Length: 6.88 in (175 mm)
Product Box Width: 6.88 in (175 mm)
Product Box Height: 7.88 in (200 mm)

If you think that's all it is, you've never seen one in person. Yes it is a box that fits the stock location and has a filter in it. That's the only similarity. That must mean my little stock Civic intake is basically the same thing too.

it probably needs to be turned at the the rubber joint, they probably just turned it for a clear photo of what it is, looks to me like if you rotated the front section at the rubber joint it would it would go down and then turn the filter horizontally aross the front of the car

fix your browser settings, there's nothing wrong with the avatar, some browsers block it as a popup for some reason, Firefox is one

the pic was uploaded off my computer onto this site, it's not a link

here u go bud, I converted it to a usable format...I believe it was encoded with the older gif non-interlaced formatting so it would not show in many browsers

no need for gif since it isn't an animated icon

give this one a try

I think you are all silly billies for getting lured into this.

I highly doubt that intake pictured would fit into a stock rx8, the piping is all wrong.
