Question New guy here, be gentle.

Ok, I'm completely new to this car. I just got an '04 RX8 and I was thinkin about the ZEX nos kit. Any information/advice ya'll can give me? The car is bone stock with 9,900 miles. Also, what are some good "small" hp upgrades (trying not to spend thousands of dollars right away, lol). Thanx

I strongly suggest you to go with Turbo instead of NOS atm.

I'm a Jet engine mechanic and I prefer the Axial Flow compressor to the centrifical flow.

then you should wait for Richard Paul's Axial flow Supercharger kit for the RX-8 being debuted at the end of this month

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...8&page=1&pp=15

definetly read the first 20 pages and the last hundred or so. if you hav etime read the whole thing some evening its a good read for th emost part.

also check out his website http://www.axialflow.com/ for some installed pics so far.

you can order up the short shifter which is a blast.

for performance gains on a budget in the mean time i suggest an aftermarket exhaust like the corksport/mazdaspeed , turboXs or espilir. and definetly get the Racing Beat flash.

if you think you might go with the Axcharger id say hold of on the intake until you decide. if you decide you arent ready for that step for awhile then get the Racing Beat intake with duct.

if you decide to go nitrous make sure you read Charles R. Hill's theads about his original install and his conversion to direct port injection. he'll be working on tuning soon with the e-manage ultimate

here is the direct port thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/direct-port-nitrous-conversion-93864/

Well if that's the case, it would be a shame if you didn't put one of these under your hood. Yeah it's not as cheap as nitrous up front, but there's no bottles to fill, and that will save you money over the long run.

Although if you want to do nitrous, Charles Hill has had good results, I think he may be the only guy on the boards with a nitrous 8. He'll probably chime in any minute now.

edit: doh, beaten by zoom44 like a redheaded stepchild

I have done nitrous and now I have a turbo. Nitrous is nice but a turbo is the ****!!! If I had to do it all over again I would have went right to turbo.

Ok, seems like most everyone leans towards a turbo, I've looked at the Greddy, what are the thoughts on that?

greddy is pretty cheap (3k), but you'll want to upgrade the hoses (100-200) since the ones that come with it are poor quality. Add in boost and afr gauges (500+), boost controller (400) and you should be set. The greddy now comes with a decent fuel management (ultimate), instead of blue. You always have the option to get the int-x should it not meet your needs.

far as I know, all the other FI kits will cost more than the greddy, and many of them aren't even available yet.

On the other hand, given your screen name, you might regret getting a turbo if you really dig the axial flow..
