No. I'm mid-weld on the manifold at the moment. I'll trace one up as soon as I clean it off.

There was supposed to be some sarcasm in there somewhere.

As always, lost in translation.

You lose a bunch of mid-throttle response as well.
Ask me how I know. :p
It's ok, I'll admit, I tried it too. I just couldn't resist.

Why is it impossible to have a standalone and have all of you cabin functions working?
Acosta did it with their 3 rotor Rx-8, they have the stock ecu in there to control all the cabin stuff and a standalone microtek for engine management on that 20b.

Oh, I didn't try it - it was tried for me when I fried my two trailing coils with the E-Manage prior to fixing the issue.

if there are 2 computers- the stock PCM and an aftermarket- in there than the aftermarket isnt standalone because its not alone now on acosta's- what does the pcm think about not getting all of the info from the sensors? its probably lighting a cel but since its no longer controlling any engine functions it cant do anything about it right? does the DSC and TCS still work? not fully since they can cut power to help you out but since there's no control.....

I think standalone is a term that goes hand in hand with "standalone engine management", which in the 20b RX-8 it is.
They beefed up all the drive train components donno if they put a DSC/TCS system in there. So I doubt its working on that end.
I don't think a CEL would matter i can't remember specifially but I think they had aftermarket tach spedo etc..... in there.

what about the radio controls on the steering wheel? do they work? what about the cruise control? is the throttle by wire still working or did they ditch that too? these are the things(plus the things i mentioned above) people are talking about when they say a stand alone is not an option.

Just out of curiosity:

If you unplug your stock ECU, (besides the stuff related to running the motor) what exactly ceases to function? When you turn the key to the ACC position, surely your dash and gauges won't do anything. But would your radio, headlights, wipers, interior lights, door locks, windows, and trunk still function? I wouldn't know - haven't tried.

In regards to MoTeC, I have been informed that they have in fact successfully integrated an M880 ECU and ADL into at least two RX-8s, with the exception of staged electronic power steering ability (of which the CAN encoding for whatever reason is top-secret).

The RX-8's stock traction control is obviously no longer available, but can be programmed into whichever standalone ECU is used, if it has that capability. MoTeC offers traction control units which can be used with their ECU systems.
