Car is at the dealer with a cooked tranny. The part that gets me is how bad the tech knocks the transmision in this car.He actually said the tranny in the 8 is weaker then the miata.I will know more on monday.

Not true. While it is made by the same company, it's a different, stronger unit. You tech is full of it.
But good luck with it, and keep us posted!

Why would replacing thte flywheel help anything? Did you buy an aftermarket flywheel for them to put in along with the new tranny?

I broke mine too, I was coming to a stop rollling about 5 mph and I put the car in 1st gear, I heard a loud pop and the car would no longer go into 2nd gear, I never was told by the dealer what happened to the transmission but they ended up replacing it. Only took like 4 days though they were pretty fast about it. While it was there they also replaced the rear diff b/c it was whining really loud at 45 mph.
They need to beef up the driveline on this car. I don't drag race the car or do any crazy launches from 6 grand or anything so I can't figure out why this happened.

I have the FM2 kit on my miata. Pushing just over 300 to the rear wheels (yes, on a dyno). The car has been daily driven since 95 having the turbo for the last 3 years, 125k on the odo. I have never had any problem with the tranny. I doubt a week tranny is the problem. Its more likely to be a bearing problem that led to a catastrophic failure than a design weakness. Although, Mazda does have a history of underengineering.
