Despite what Rotarygod has said about hondas, they can get pretty powerful, and in my opinion are some of the best cars out there for tuners. So many mods, and the hondas respond very well to most of them. Although they carry the image of rice, they can be quite nice. Back to the dynos, don't always believe them. Take the test drive and see what you think. The rsx, even the type s is pretty torque-less itself, the RX-8 might not have the gas mileage that the honda does, but the power, the suspension, the looks of the car. Really research and test drive before making your decison.

This is a no no. I guess I'll see for sure when I test drive a RX8 but this doesnt look promising I really would want the more upscale RX8 because its more exclusive but the gas mileage and its shitty torque might put the nail in its coffin.
Actually....if you look at my attachment, you'll see that the RX8 has a fatter midrange torque curve than the Type S (all cars stock, different dynos though, sourced from respective forums)

"CAN" is the key word in there. Every car CAN get pretty powerful. We aren't comparing what can be done. We are comparing stock vs stock and how it is important to drive them rather than basing a decision on what is written on paper. BTW, I have a Honda.

I'm also not sure that the RX-8 dyno numbers are correct; according to a number of sources, including Mazdatrix, dyno numbers vary widely from run to run, making the figures suspect. I also find it hard to believe that a car that puts out 238hp at the crank and comes equpped with a relatively lightweight flywheel and carbon driveshaft only makes 180 hp at the wheels.

I personally think the car is capable of putting out more power. Due to the ECU tunning problems from the factory, I think Mazda is having a hard time matching their clams with the dynos that owners are doing. I spoke with a tech who told me that Mazda STILL doesn't have the ECU right. There will most likely be more flashes, or until owners stop complaining of problems with the car. We will probably see a more perfected ECU in the up and coming models of the RX8 being released in the next 2 years including whatever they have done on the MS version. My personal conculusion is that Mazda let the car out to the public before the tunning was perfected because of deadlines, but that is just an assumption. Only time will tell.

I was just messing with you, and I know we're comparing stock vs. stock, and yes test driving is the most important part of buying a car. You should know first hand what it is you're buying. If I ever do something like that it's probably just because I'm bored and feel like bothering someone. I try not to be an *** TOO often, but sometimes I just can't help it.

The conditions were slightly cool outside, 93 octane, no cat B&B straight pipe, B&B catback, K&N intake, and the LSD turn all of the way off, also I had a check engine light which they Joe said could definatly effect the numbers in a negative way if the car is running too rich, and I know it has to be running to rich because I haven't had the car tuned after I took the cat off and added the K&N. I do more pulls on the same machine over the winter after I do some mods to the engine. No, I didn't dyno the car when it was bone stock, I know I should have, but at least I know where I stand now.
Our RX8's down under are rated at 177KW/236HP at flywheel and I recently had mine dynoed with just a midpipe with a Hi-Flo cat and picked up 4 kw. Reading was 127.7RWKW or approx 170HP in 4th gear, standard was 123.5RWKW or 165HP
