Yup, an airbag lives there too :D If you're going to install gauges there, you better disable that airbag or else an accident will mount those gauges to your face.

Anyways, it could be a Turbo Renesis or FD-powered like most performance RX-8s out there. Someone at that site mentioned 400HP@8500rpm and 165TQ@9000. I think that's bull though.

 

165TQ@9k makes no sense.. it'd be higher at 8500. 400HP is possible.

Yeah 165 whatever (units?) is pretty much made up, like that guy who stole Jump120MPH's pics.

 

It's attached to the windshield pillar, behind it you can see part of the CF gauge roof thing, and the gauge itself is set in cf.

 

Yah, that was sarcasm, but actually in the R&T article they said it had about that many ft-#'s...

edit: estimated 250 bhp & 165 ft-lbs.

 

hp = tq * rpm / 5252

400 * 5252 / 8500 = tq

tq = 247 ft*lbs

I'd say it's pretty safe to say that it's BS.

 

Well that RX8 was in the mazdaspeed booth at SEMA, Window banner and all. So it just might be the real deal.

That is definitely an intercooler as the radiator is mounted further back, that intercooler looks likes the Blitz one as well; more than likely it is supercharged...

 

I wonder if that RX-8 belongs to anyone here. Maybe he or she could debunk the myth.

 

Well i dream of it to, it was in PAS and modified under there SEMA coverage, and that car is labeled as being in the mazdaspeed booth and from the pics it was, it was the same color, same rims , and window banner.

Looks like an overlay to me, not a total replacement.

See the lower edge? If they could get the fit right, that'd be pretty slick.

 

mocked up speed8. turbo or supercharger maybe but who says that it even works. could be wired and ready to go but still missing the vitals of the system. My car is the same way, lots of eye candy bolted on inside and out but nothing yet where it counts. I thought about getting the guage and intercooler pre installed so when i do get a kit my install will go faster but then i decided that would be pretty weak to mock up so i am just going to wait for my warranty to run out and hymee's supercharger to be released b4 i do anything. my 2 cents.

 

Don't be too quick to invest in an intercooler. Intercoolers are also called charge coolers for a reason.

Well, with all the new 8's poping up, I wonder what happened to this one - maybe Bern knows...

Behold the three mystery 8's and Pettits's supercharged 8. I saw it run, so I believe there is hope close for all of us that crave HP.

 

The first is hardly a mystery. It was the "Mazdaspeed " RX-8 at SevenStock. There are notes on the board about it. Apparently, it is supercharged.

 

Robert is correct... the bule and white cars belong to MazdaSpeed NA and the red car is the Australian Hi-Po concept... the Petitt car is obvious... but I think most of you already knew all of this by now! :p

Sorry I didn't see this thread a lot earlier... I would've cleared up the mystery many moons ago... :D
