MS/AEM intake question.

i don't need any big long winded explanation or anything i was just wondering.

why, if the pipe is straight from the throttle body to the hole in the front bumper, why are their three pieces of pipe? there could be one pipe that is straight and smooth from the throttle body right to the radiator support. then a coupler that allows for flex of the motor and then the pipe that has the double bends inside the bumper to the filter.

just curious if anyone knew. thanks.

i am asking because i have a stupid short ram from SR motorsports and i was thinking about making my own MS style intake by buying the cheap intake piping from autozone and welding on some tabs to bolt to the front bumper support. of course i am planning on buying the MS intake eventually but i just got flooded out of my house and i am waiting on the landlord to fix up the house before i can move back in and alot of my tools where ruined and our rental insurance wouldn't cover flooding so i got Fucked. still want the real thing but if i can get similar results for short $$ until i can get back in and replace what was lost before i start buying non essentials... thanks guys.

thanks for not being long winded.

i don't have those in my car as they weren't there when i bought it. haven't had a problem that i know about but since everyone is swearing that they are super important, anyone know where i can pick some up and if they just bend over the end of the pipe?

I believe there are a few threads around here of people making their own screens with the AEM intake and how to incorporate it, the MS intake came with screens.

We found a slight power increase without the screens while on the dyno. YMMV.
