Misaligned Borla exaust
So I just put on my Borla catback ( have BHR Midpipe) and the exaust tips do not match. The left side (from back) protrudes out 1" further (from shroud) than the right side.
All hangers are connected and hang plumb. Also, it seats to the mid pipe just fine. So it seems that the problem is coming from the bend just before going into the muffler. It does not seem to be an install problem as I have messed with all 3 connection points and nothing changes. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? |
|
Its hard to hold this and take a picture by myself but you get the idea. It is VERY noticable
Could someone else please do the same and let me know how far they stick out? Idk what "normal" is because Ive never seen a Borla on an RX8 in person before |
I have installed a few Borla cat backs and never had an issue. Stock midpipe?
|
No, BHR. Which worked just fine with the stock catback
|
Yeah, some times it just take some adjusting but two locals have the BHR/Borla combo with no fitment issues. Has the car ever been wrecked?
|
Hell no, shes perfect. As far as adjusting, short of putting a slice in the muffler feed pipe, bending it, welding it back up, there is nothing else. If I bend the hanger rods, its just going to stretch the rubber mounts. Ive already tried moving both connection points on the Borla and it did not change anything
|
Also, it would help if I knew how far out the tips should actually be. That way I will know if the bend in the main pipe is tweeked, or if its just the one (removable) tip.

I have the issue, unaligned by about an inch..
|
Andrew, that would be awsome. Thanks
DV, what midpipe/ cat do you have? |
I have the RB non-res pipe with a bhr res welded in
|
most likely a fabrication mistake
The way it is mounted makes it difficult to be an install error |
Im assuming it us. Thats why I need to know the normal length of stick out so I can figure out where the problem is
|
Can anyone with a Borla please measure your tips?
|
Is it in the car?
If you measure from the rear hangers on both sides it will give you a reference if the mufflers hang straight. Otherwise it could be a little bit out in a couple of places that result in it out a lot more on that one side |
Thats an idea, ill check
|
Spoke with a guy at Borla and after an email exchange they are sending me out a whole new system!!! Thats customer service right there!!!! No bullcrap or anything, just sent him these pictures. Will post when I find out what exactly was wrong
|
Sorry for not getting back to this. I was going to measure the same way you did but I couldn't find a square.
From my eyeball vantage point, mine hang perfectly even, so I can see it being a possible fabrication error. Great that they're sending you a whole new kit, though! Knew I liked my Borla for more than just its sound :D |
Oh its all good.Yeah I couldnt beleive how they acted towards this situation. If in a couple days I actually get a brand new kit, I will never buy another brand exaust again

David Borla is actually a member here.
Very involved when the car was first on sale, and seems like he cares.... |

Borla is the shit. It's so refreshing to see companies who still get it.

Guy, he quoted Stealth to validate his statement...

Just received a BNIB Borla catback this afternoon. They did everything they saud they would.
I couldnt exactly find where the actual problem was, but I have my suspicions. Either way its all good now. |
I am having the same issue, the left tip is out farther than the right side. I have loosened all the connectors and tried to get them even but it's not seeming to work. Has anyone figured out where the issue might be? Everything else is stock piping and I replaced all the rubber hangars. Kind of perplexed atm.

pa8: David Borla posted his contact information earlier in the thread. I would start with emailing or calling him to see if he can be of assistance.
From our OP's experience, Borla seems to be ON TOP of this and taking exceptional care of their customers. reach out to them and you should be in great hands. |

is this the one you were trying to sell me? |
Years ago I had a Flowmaster catback for my WRX that wouldn't fit, it was welded crooked. I'd bought it from Summit, and they paid $80 for me to have it rewelded by a local shop. Flowmaster also offered to help, but Summit was a little quicker to respond. I was very happy with both companies, and wanted to mention this incident and its positive outcome.
And thumbs up to Borla, too, that' s the way to take care of customer issues. All companies screw up, it's how they handle the screw ups that define the good from the bad. |

My issue was with the removable passenger side tip. It wasnt set up in the jig correctly, and Im thinking whoever was welding it, noticed it. Due to the bead not actually going sll the way around the tip/pipe joint. Somehow it must have gotten tossed in with the good ones and got sent out. |

Wonder if they cover even if i'm not the original owner? They used to be nicely aligned a while back, was installed about 20k miles ago, which was a while ago but anyone else having this problem? The tips beginning to touch the shroud? Yes they are touching and beginning to melt the shroud :(
Driver Side: Safe Attachment 217561 Passenger Side: Touching shroud :( Attachment 217562 |
The passenger side itself is adjustable. That can be fixed with one wrench.
