Midpipe

I want to purchase a midpipe as my first mod on my 8 and i have a question. If i am correct the bhr midpipe is the only one that has no packing, and i have read that the packing is what produces a buzz overtime. So my question: is the bhr the only midpipe i can buy if i dont want the pipe to buzz overtime, or are the other pipes ok except for a few instances?

I've had the racing beat dual resonated pipe for quite some time (1yr, 15k+) I have not experienced buzzing, and I know that some of my packing has melted when I took off the pipe and heard glass beads rolling around ... personally I feel that the buzzing issue is a bit overhyped

it will be a bit raspy ... I would go for racing beat ... I like their quality ... I also think racing beat is a bit quieter than BHR ... could be wrong tho .... AP is LOUD

Without resonators you're basically straight piping the car, if you're using the stock exhaust still, you'll be loud but not too bad, if you use any sort of aftermarket exhaust, then you'll hear it really scream. And IMO, AP has one of the best sounds in the midpipe market :-o

I have an rx7store midpipe in my basement ... I can sell it to you if you want it ... I had it on my car for 2 weeks and it is a wonder how I did not get a ticket ... I also have MS version 2 catback ... its awesome for track tho ... it gave me a bit more kick I think over the racing beat, but it was barely noticeable.... I have it laying for when I go to the track

As far as the general breakdown with midpipes ... you pay for what you get...

BHR: somewhat loud, but absolutely beautiful based on reviews ... also light, and well built ... best quality IMO

Racing Beat: proven, well built, a teeenie bit louder than stock, risk of deterioration over a long time ... good middle ground

AP: cheapest resonated midpipe ... raspy and loud, possibly louder than BHR ... I would recommend this for trubo cars

Nonresonated: Lot's of options; Don't do it unless you want loud exhaust ticket ... its pretty much a guarantee ... BUT it is the cheapest option .... I can let mine go for 155 shipped http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/rx...%20midpipe.htm

I went to a meet with the unresonated midpipe and people told me I was going to get a ticket sooner or later

although my good friend said the unresonated midpipe sounded GLORIOUS ... I have suspicions that he is a closet ricer tho....

Mine no ... The one I heard it on had greddy sp2 I believe ... it was nice ... but I prefer mine tho (racing beat + MS dual canister catback) ... I don't think you will be disappointed in w.e you choose .... the midpipe is a great 1st mod ....

it is not too difficult, but it will get you acquainted with the underside of your car ... close and personal!

you will feel gains

and most importantly, you will shoot FIRE

yeah thats the part im most excited about! ive been doing a lot of work on my friend's rsx and im getting extremely restless. I wanna work on MY car haha.

so the non resonated pipe would be loud enough to get ticketed on a stock exhaust?

I am not sure .... I have never heard it .... but it would make your flow interesting as you are going to go from 2.5 inch to 3 inch back to 2.5 ... esp if you have resonators...

Plus you don't want to go backwards ... you'll def want something else (with resonators) once you get a catback ... trust me on this one ... get a cat back first ... used ones pop up in FS fairly often ... Also get a general goal for your car ... don't aimlessly mod it.... In that way you will rarely end up with **** you don't need/want down the road

I have had the AP dual res. midpipe with stock exhaust on for about a week. I Don't think it is loud at all. The install was easy. The only thing that I HATE about it is between 4k - 4750ish I get a nasty sounding rasp. Even under normal loads. I am hoping it will go away after a while.
The Injen intake sounds louder than the midpipe that I have, from inside and outside of the car.
Anyone else get the rasp? Does it go away?????

The BHR Midpipe and the Racing Beat Midpipe are quite similar in terms of sound and our website has a video comparing the BHR to the Mazsport Midpipe (which was what RB was copying with their offering, since Mazsport no longer exists). The general idea with both BHR and RB offerings is that they are smooth-sounding, rather quiet with a slightly deeper tone than stock, and they sound real nice when you hammer the throttle. In our sound-testing we discovered, and those several people in attendance agreed, that the BHR Midpipe made every cat-back with which it was used sound far better and there was absolutely no drone. The buzzing in our first 7 units was generated by some inferior resonators we were using but we now use a far superior (and patented) resonator that has shown no problems at all. The raspy sound that has been mentioned is inherent in rotary engines and both the BHR and RB midpipes control it rather well.

no problem will arise, its just not optimal for flow ... I think you should keep your car optimal at all times so go catback then midpipe ... but that's just my 2 cents

you are confusing midpipe and cat back ... rx7store is a cat-delete pipe aka midpipe ... cat back is directly under your trunk aka muffler

but of course ... the stock cat back makes everything quieter
