Question Mid pipe and canzoomer ?

Hey all,
Great forum here.
When peeps are taking about replacing there Mid pipe do they mean they are removing the cat. converter and just running a pipe from header to muffler or something else??Im thinking of taking off my muffler and just putting in a pipe to replace it,Maybe with some muffler tips but not sure of that yet.

Another thing,Is it worth the cash to get a canzoomer stage 1 kit to help boost my performance.Im really thinking of getting this and would like alittle feed back if possible.

ps.Has anyone here taken there muffler off and ran a pipe? How does it sound,Im thinking it sounds good but who knows...I did this to my vette. and it sounded great but Im not sure with this rotory motor.
Thanks all,Shark

you will be pulled over in a heartbeat...if you can even stand to listen to it...and you're talking about some serious flaming...You don't really gain much on this car with removal of the exhaust...

Some people have replaced the mid-pipe with a straight through design, which is also VERY loud, imo, but I think most have gone with either a high flow cat/resonator combo or just the high flow cat or just resonator...rotories are VERY VERY loud unmuffled...can say much for Canzoomer cause i haven't tried it...there's probably equal feedback in regards to negative and positive opinions about it...it helped some, discouraged others...

When I was installing my cat back i cranked the car with just the manifold and midpipe on and scared the **** outta myself...not only did i shoot a huge *** flame out from under the car..the sound was so deafening my ears rang the rest of the night....

A few people have tried it but said it was unbearable. You are better off removing the hi flow cat & resonator portion and replacing it with a midpipe. They make several versions of this with either 1) hi flow cat & resonator 2) no cat & resonator 3) no cat & no resonator (essentially a straight thru pipe).

In terms of the Canzoomer that seems like it is the best normally aspirated (non forced induction) power improvement product out there right now, but you do need to have it tuned for it to work well. Unless you can tune it yourself, or you have have someone that can do it for you than it makes sense.

If you really want to know what it'll sound like, unbolt the stock catback and disconnect it from the midpipe/cat. I did this when I installed a catback, and I can say for certain that a 350 V8 with just headers and straight pipes has got nothing on the unmuffled Renesis. It's LOUD, obnoxious, and will definitely violate even the least restrictive sound ordinances.

Hey all,
Thanks for all the replies.I should of added that my 8 is in storage for the winter not at my home so I cant try to disconect the exhaust and listen to it.
It looks like the straight pipe with no cat. and no resonator is the answer and leaving the muffler on,I thought I read that some peeps had removed the muffler and it wasnt that bad but I must wrong.
So do any of you think a muffler tip and no stock muffler and leaving the stock cat. converter on would be to loud,Im thinking the tips will muffle the sound but maybe not enough.Just a thought.
Well on to the canzoomer,I think Im going to order one soon as long as the tuning isnt that much.I have no idea how to tune one so it will all have to be done for me untill I learn some more about what Im doing.Does anyone have a idea what the price is about to have one tuned,Im thinking mazda isnt a good place to call for a price.
Bed time now all so thanks,
Shark

just thought i woule let you know...i have the B&B mid pipe with no cat and the Greddy SP2 exhaust. it was very loud but i just went to the local muffler shop and had them weld in a bullet high flow muffler and now the sound is deep and mean with a very faint rasp at certain RPMs. i love it!

but for anyone else that has this, have just plugged your o2 sensor back in with no problems or are you getting a CEL light?

So are you saying you replaced the greddy exhaust with a bullet high flow?

greddy + bullet. Most find that an aftermarket midpipe + an aftermarket catback is too loud

yeah i have the sim...but i don't think its sending a good signal. i'm running real rich. i've had it for a few months but i am planning on taking the sim off and running just the o2 sensor into my midpipe and not worrying about the CEL. if you hack the o2 sensor then you risk voiding your warranty.

If you need someone to tune the CZ once you get it, you should take it to a reputable rotary mechanic, not some import tuning shops that does 99% of their work on four bangers. I don't know where you are in Indiana, but it would be worth a drive to Indianapolis or Chicago to get to the right tuner to do the job.
