Mazsports cooling fan mod caused CEL?

So I've been going back and forth to the dealer to fix a cel Ive been having. They would keep resetting the ecu and it would come back in a couple days. Today, they actually pulled codes! They pulled a P0456 which they replaced the gas cap to fix. Then, they pulled the codes P0480 and P0481 and blamed them on the mazsports cooling fan mod and did not do anything to fix it. I havent heard anything about the Mazsports cooling fan mod causing any CELS so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about those codes?

thanks

Those are the codes for the cooling fan relays having to high or to low voltage. I've had the same ones pop up with mine once. I cleared them and haven't had them come back up. These codes will not cause the MIL to light up, it just stores them in the memory. I don't know if they will cause you to fail an inspection or not, but I would guess not. The CEL you had was for the gas cap and these were just stored in memory with the other code. You might call Mazsport if you keep getting the codes.

My fans have been working fine and I haven't gotten any more codes so I haven't worried about it.

Cel

That is why I use a pair of diodes in my fan mod.
BTW - the CEL/code will fail you in an emissions test.

I didn't know that. Thanks, that'll probably save me a trip when I get my inspection.

can you use the typical ECU reset procedure with the cooling mod removed to clear the code prior to a emissions test?

Yes, but remember you won't pass an emissions test immediately after a CEL if you live in a state with an OBD-II test.
It takes a minimum of three drive cycles to set all the flags to "OK" after a reset.

I have the same diode manual fan switch as MM (Probably because he did it for me) and I've never gotten a CEL. And it costme $5 bucks for the universal switch from RadioShack

Does one of the later flashes lower the operating temperature?

I have the kit but have not installed it. It was bought 3-4 years ago.

I live in CT & it doesn't get that toasty around here.

I have not had my 2004 in the dealership since late 2009.

Feed back?
