Mazdaspeed flywheel here...question

The car 'could' have been done tuesday or wednesday of last week, but I had the shop hold-off until the flywheel got here. My paranoid question: I'm hoping the MS Flywheel makes enough of a difference, because I'm sorta scared of the techs putting back a stock flywheel, TELLING me the MS flywheel is in, and me not being able to tell the difference. I'm REALLY hoping the shop techs have more integrity than to take my flywhee, put it on ebay, and re-install an OEM flywheel on my car. So - question is, I suppose - will I know instantly the difference? :) |

I could easily sue them for the price of my flywheel; but they are doing the labor for free, so...yeah.
The difference between stock and MS is only about 3lbs, however, 'where' the weight is removed will/should certainly help. |
you'll definatly feel the difference 3lbs doesn't sound like much but it's more than 10% from stock.
|
If you don't feel the difference, head over and get them to do it again with the real deal.
|
Let me know what you think of that flywheel. Like how it drives and feels. I have been thinking about getting one.
|
I have the Mazdaspeed flywheel and I notice the difference. You are buying the new flywheel and this isn't a warrenty issue. Ask for the old flywheel. It is yours after all. If you don't really want to keep it, turn it in on recycling day.
|
Exactly....I got my old flywheel when I had mine done...
And you will be able to tell a big difference when you rev the engine, will take alot less time to get revs up high when out of gear. |
Thanks folks, I will ask for, and better get, my old flywheel to be returned. I'll also reply back to this thread with any driving differences, etc. :)

tell them you're going to make a wall clock for the garage out of your old flywheel... that way you'll get it and they won't think you're a **** for not trusting them.

Actually, I'll tell them to return my part because it's 'my part' - part of the $25,250 + Tax I paid for the car... :D |
Can you post your feedback after you get MS flywheel installed, as Im thinking about getting one as well, but im not sure if the benefits justify the cost.
Also I drive in big city traffic, so dont want to stall / overrev all the time..... |
Darin, the weight of the OEM flywheel is on the outside which makes it pig heavy and easy to drive on a hill.
The MS wheel has the weight in the middle :) Even though it is not that much lighter, it is by far better distributed. I love mine. |

Bingo - as i said in this and other threads - it's where the weight is which is of ultimate importance... :D Just like on a woman... :p: I hope the new house is feeling like 'home' for ya, brother! :) |

I went to an EIGHT-pound flywheel in my Miata...was AWESOME...had no drivability losses, even in my then 100-miles-per-day commuting. Before that I had my OEM flywheel milled down from 22lbs, to about 14 on my Probe GT....again, it's how the car SHOULD have came from the factory. :) |

A bit of an update:
En route to work this morning I was able to 'open her up' a bit...I'm pretty sure I feel a difference in acceleration, for what that's worth. The difference could be the car starts pulling sooner in the rpm range. Before, as the tach swung up towards 6-7K i'd feel thrust...this morning, I'd feel a marked tug as low as 5K. Generally, so far, I am happy with the purchase, install. :) |
Yea when I got my ms flywheel I didn't notice too much difference, unless I revved it on neutral. The most difference I felt wasn't going to gear to gear but the fact that the car pulls smoothly at higher gears @ low speeds.
|
You will love it
You will love it . Not hard to get use to . Revs quicker. Makes big difference for the buck. Get your old one back..
|
I've got the old FW back - in my garage...today on the way home from work I think the car was pulling harder than ever. Really - pulled hard to the end of 1st, then a SOLID push into 2nd...I'm sold. :D

to bad you couldn't of thrown in a better clutch than oem. Maybe next time ;)
