...and why would we be disappointed? If I wanted to trade horsepower for reliability, I would have bought an RX7 or other turbo'd beast. And it's not like the Mazdaspeed RX8 is going to be anywhere near the same price... different league all together.

love my car, not trading it, like any new release, there will be updated versions for years to come. That doesnt mean our RX8's are bad. I dont think everyone is going to run out and trade in their current 8's for new ones, we'll see.

Beware the April fools shenanigans!!

If it is true then awesome. Hopefully it isn't anything my local Mazdaspeed dealer won't be able to handle...

"Mazda will be making Mazdaspped sports version of all its new models, uncluding the Mazda 3, and Rx-8, and the Mazda 6 you see here. The 280-hp, 2.3 liter turbo four-cylinder engine is expected to reach production ( at least for the Japanese market) early in 2005. "

All i can say is that the only thing that has been holding me back from getting an Rx-8 is the whole tuning issue, a turbo tuned rx-8 is what I'm personaly waiting for, so out of my excitement that is why I had posted this thread once I heard the news.

Who cares anyway? I'd rather have a more powerful, rotary powered 2 seater than a Turbo'd 8. So.... make a new RX7 already.

No one turbo the car anymore... the Japanese have tried and done that - it is well known a 2 port 13B Automatic can go 260 ps with TRUST small turbo with intercooler.

You can put a bigger turbine in the 3 port Manual high power. It is likely 320ps in one Japan tune shop. But you need a serious upgrade in the cooling department

So what - Japanese are now using supercharge for rotary - as it is cooler engine and less emission. Turbo is going to fade I think.

Notice is also says "for the Japanese market"- which means nothing about when they'll release it in North America or Europe.

Thanks Takahashi... I've been saying EXACTLY what you've been saying for months now. I even asked at the dealership in Japan when I first test drove one and the salesman told me because of emissions, turbos are on their way out.

The 6 is what is getting the turbo...we are in a sense getting what Europe has already in the Altezza (or whatever the 6 is over there), all wheel drive with a 2.3L 4 cyl turbo charged engine...the 8 is NOT going to be S/C or T/C...at least for the next 2 years for the US model...the Mazdaspeed 8 is aesthetics with some chassis stiffening components for an added extra $5000...not worth it to me...but hey...someone will jump on that...also Mazdaspeed US Spec will also be releasing the 3 version before the 8...this was all in an email sent to EVERY dealership from MNAO direct from JP...I read it while talking to my dealer when getting my 2 recalls done...

When I had my recall work done last week, I talked to one of the salesmen who said it would definately be a supercharged version for the Mazdaspeed 8. I asked if that would make it possible for us to have superchargers put in our 8's, and he was not sure if that would ever be an option at the dealerships.

This is no news, we all know Mazda's plan is to add a MazdaSpeed Model to all of their exisiting models to expand on their current product line.

No this 2.3L 4-Cyclinder Engine will NOT be the MazdaSpeed RX-8 engine.... <> This is the MS Mazda6 engine that they been working on for awhile. And NO this will not be in the 2005 model as The Productions of this engine STARTS in 2005 so the earliest you will see it would be the 2006 model and that's only in Japan.

For those of you who are very eager for the MS RX-8, the RX-8 product cycles trails the Mazda6's by one year. So expect the MS RX-8 to come out no earlier than one year after the MS Mazda6 if you are planning to wait.
