Magnaflow Performance Exhaust – RX-8

Picked up my car this morning from the Magnaflow Performance Exhaust facility to find a nice new exhaust system on my car. The car was used for prototyping their exhaust and everything turned out great. Included are a few pictures I took of the car after the exhaust was installed. The sound is very nice and rumbles perfectly and the look of the exhaust is sharp. I don’t have dyno sheets for the car yet, they should be up in a few weeks but looking at the charts for my A/T RX-8 we saw about 6 wheel HP @ peak and 3lb-ft of torque additional over stock.

More about the RX8 exhaust, it features a 100% Stainless Steel construction. Fast flowing 2.5" mandrel bent polished 400 series Stainless Steel tube, dual 4x9x14" polished 400 series Stainless Steel mufflers, and two double wall 4" polished 300 series Stainless Steel tips. The vehicle has a very distinct but not disruptive exhaust note (characteristic of most Magnaflow mufflers) while marinating very comfortable drivable interior sound level.

From these pictures, it looks just like the Borla. Do you have a shot of the muffler can(s) themselves? Thanks...

Yeah, I want to see what the set up looks like. I've got a good idea but, a picture is worth a thousand words. I also like those tips! I wonder if they are spot welded like the stock RX-8 tips are. When I was putting on the exhaust finishers I took a look at the stock tips and was a little disapointed they weren't removable.

Ive seen the borla and the one thing this exhaust does not have is those little rolled up edges that collect crud at the tip of the exhaust which is a very nice bonus.

The only concern i have is since the tips are huge. Will they melt the sorrounding plastic? I would think they would especially if one gets canzoomered. That would not be good IMHO.

The design of the tip looks clean and very nice, much much much better than the magnaflow rsx exhaust.

If no plastic is melted i give em 2 snaps up in a z formation :D

zerohour the tips are far enough out that it shouldnt melt anything above it. I asked about something else and they said the tips were the way they were so it wouldnt melt the plastic.

Mangaflow puts sound files and video clips on their site of the exhaust systems. I'll see if I can get a hold of some sound clips, but it may be a few weeks :)

nice, any word on the Titanium single tip?

i've had magnaflow's put on my other car...so one of my buddies...his was places so that u can't see the tip out so well...i had my exhaust out a lil bit more..with the same concern that it would melt my bumper....well...i had mine out for about 2 years with no problem...my buddy on the other hand....his back bumper melted a bit......

LiquidChick, ouch for your buddy! Glad yours is doing alright! My tips you can see well it sticks out far enough where I dont think any melting will happen. So far it hasnt gotten anything hot on the bumper. Ill keep checking after my long drives too :) But the engineering guy was damn sure id be alright and he knew his stuff ;)

it "WAS" doing alright...i hit a 450-500 lb black bear and totalled the car...:o that's how i got my rx-8 :p

Alright im trying to get audio of the exhaust hopefully middle of this week Ill have something decent but all my recording devices (little to none) suck at input!

hmmm well..the bear died...and no one knows how i'm alive...i still get the "hey yogi..i think i'm bleeding" jokes....i have pics..but i'm afraid if i post em...they'll be too big...:(

What happened to the Magnaflow titanium exhaust for the RX8? I'd reccomend waiting for that before I bought their 400 series exhaust.

zoom-zoom brought his car into our dealership so I had the chance to see and hear the Magnaflow exhaust in person. I like it. It looks great the size of the tips are perfect. It is not a loud noise at idle either which is nice and it has a very nice growl at higher loads. I am going to look more into it when it comes available.

Forget leather, I want to see a bearskin interior in your 8!

Something else caught my attention in those pics...is that a R-34 in the background?

Any more info on when this will be available and prices? What about the Ti system??

I saw the dynos :D But dont have a copy to upload. :) Im going down there on monday so ill ask more questions.

zOOm-zOOm... when you head on over there, could you get info on when it'll be released, pricing, dyno (although I think most people would rather see a MT dyno), and some pics of the cans themselves...

called magnaflow today,asked how the rx-8 titanium exhuast ws coming and he said they droped that project. f%^&*
i wanted some lightweight exhaust to shave some more lbs.

I went to pick up my exhaust when I said I would sorry I havent posted back here about it as of yet.

So I asked the ETA on the rx-8 exhaust and they said that it was ready to roll as far as development on the project and they didnt know a date for the exhaust for it to be mass produced, that the people with the head people make those calls.

They know its wanted and its a good market for it but I didnt get any final dates. :P

rx8man04 is right on the titanium versionb of the exhaust. I asked em bout that too ;)

In that thread I met up with bobclevenger and he recorded the exhaust. The sound clips linked there. I didnt know how much to press on exhaust etc but that is the first sounds online for it. :)

zOOm-zOOm, do you happen to know if the 4" double walled stainless steel tips are available from Magnaflow as just tips? (can you confirm that your tips overall diameters are 4" too please). And if they are, do you know if they could be fitted to a stock muffler? I think this would be a good solution. Thanks.

They are available in Australia.....My local shop has them at $AUD165 each..... 4"O.D. There are 2 types, short taper (pictured) and long taper. The long taper has a larger I.D for nearly the full length. Forum member Hymee is marketing a system with them for $AUD450 plus shipping. Less than twice that price in stainless......Half the guys here in Oz have this system fitted and love it! Check the Australian forum for reviews....type Hymee Catback.

They do look cool, but what are the length (and other dimentions) of these tips? If I'm ordering these things internationally, I want to be sure that they fit, and don't melt plastic.
The reason for this is that I'm seriously thinking about adding some nice tips to my stock muffler, and replacing my midpipe (high flow cat midpipe/straight through midpipe). Hopefully this way I'll keep the noise down a little, but still gain some worthwhile horses.

My polished stainless-steel 4" tips have arrived from Magnaflow!!... :D They look cool. :cool:
Now I need to fit them (or have them fitted anyway).
Now I know that welding stainless to mild steel is ideally done with T.I.G., but I don't have access to a T.I.G. welder, and my friendly local garage thinks that they can M.I.G. them on (although it will discolour the tips slightly at the weld - but as this isn't a visible point, it doesn't bother me too much).
Do you guys think I shall do it (M.I.G. them on)?? What are the risks of doing this?? And will the welds be good enough??? :rolleyes:
