"modded R3" isn't the flex it sounds like, unless he's boosting, his power output has more to do with age than mods. So yes a fresh 5k engine from Mazda should walk him.

What matters is the 168whp. Stock rx8s (especially with fresh engines) do better, so whatever mods you have are bringing you down, not up.
