I am looking for an "HKS style" mushroom filter with a 3.5" inlet (Prefferable Red). Most come in a 3" inlet, that's my problem. If a 3.5" is not an option does anyone make an adapter from 3.5" to 3" ????

May I ask why you need one with such a large opening?

 

The 3.5 inch inlet is the factory size and the one the Rotary Extreme intake pipe uses. I recently swapped the K+N filter included in the Rotary Extreme kit out for a Blitz SUS filter because I grew tired of an oily MAF sensor. Like jenkins is trying to do, I had to fab up my own reducer to make a 4.5 inch filter fit a 3.5 inch inlet because Blitz doesn't make the reducer I was seeking. What a pain! The only saving grace was that the speed shop where I bought the filter let me use their machine shop to make the parts I needed and trim down the length of the R.E. pipe.

Just as Charles said I am removing the OEM flat filter and mesh opening in the air box and then want to put a cone style filter on there which is 3.5" in Diameter. Hence most cone filters are 3" and why I am looking for these parts.

 

I ended up using a 3" filter and it fits just inside that piping. Then you just need to seal it. I used liquid gasket. Worked great and no leaks.

They sell a variety of S&B filters sorted by diameter and length. S&B is routinely considered superior to K&N in regards to build quality, flow, and filtration. (Due to increased # of pleats, deeper pleats, and reinforced metal caps)

Instead of using sealer to close the small gap in between the filter and homemade adapter I used something less permanent; a bicycle tube. I bought a 26" tube so I would have some material left over and cut the proper length I needed for the circumference. Then I used it like a gasket. No leaks and removeable.

Charles, why in the hell did you buy a bicycle tube?

You can get them for free from the bike shop.

Just ask for a flat tube from a repaired bike.

 

another way guys is to remove the rubber thing a jiggy from the cone filter you have and then whittle down the air box straight pipe juusstt a little and then the filter will fit right on. us a little sealent of choice(i use shoe glue and gasket sealer) to secure(an it will be tight and secure) and then you are not reducing the air intake diameter at all. It will be a clean 3.5 NOT a 3. Also pick a cone filter that has an opening at the top of the filter, not the closed top kind.

I bought one because I would have wasted time and gas in the effort to save $1.79. Seemed rather counter-productive at the time. Believe me, I cheap out when I can. How do you think the idea came about in the first place?
