a little intro..

hey all .. (sorry if this is the wrong forum to post, move me if needed)

im currently the owner of a 2002 VW Gti 1.8L turbo, and want to expand my knowledge of cars and learn more about the Rx-8 ..

i recently encountered a modded RX-8 on the road and i must say i was very impressed.. i do not know exactly what the person had, but he stayed with me as we were obnoxiously cruising down a street..

what are some common mods most of you do to your cars ? any dynos? 1/4 mile slips ?

ill tell you a little about myself.. i live in new york, im 21 years old.. ive had my gti for 2 years and i love it .. havent been to the track in a while (waiting my stock clutch to die so i can have some fun) .. current dyno SAE corrected i made 220 whp, and 270 Wtorque .. the car runs great, but after seeing that rx-8 downshift, and rev over the top, i must say i was pretty damn impressed ! .. my mods include ..

Blk 2002 Gti, Aem CAI, Hyperboost DV, Samco Turbo Inlet, VF-Engineering Dogbone Mount, Apr DPP 93 and 100 octane, Apr 2.5" TurboBack Exhaust, Greddy Type 31 FMIC, Cry02 Intercooler Sprayer, N75, Abd Upper IC pipe, TT shortshifter, 8000k Mcculloch HID kit, H&R Cupkit, Neuspeed strut tower, BKR7E's, Autometer Dual Steering Pod, Autometer C2 Boost, Water Temp And Air/Fuel gauges, smoked all around..

well, hope you all welcome me, im not here to flame, here to learn more.. heres a few pics of my ride .. enjoy... -Steve

Most RX-8's don't have any real mods done to them yet besides cosmetics. The only real "power" mods so far are exhausts and canzoomer stage 1 ecu upgrade. Intakes don't really seem to help this car too much becasue the intake is already pretty well tuned from the factory. There are mazdaspeed suspension and body kit parts but the aftermarket for the 8 has not quite developed yet.
Apparently the RX-8 is a very difficult car to dyno because you have to has the front wheels spinning too or have to trick the ecu someway (this is just something I heard from someone else who tried to dyno their RX-8).
Your Jetta is looking sweet, love that intercooler.

Cool K Man.....

KC is right, it is VERY unlikely the '8 you met had any mods at all, there are precious few around.

Maybe a 'cat-back.

Hiya Steve. Nice Vee Dub ya got there!

I just raced my RX8 at Atco Raceway in NJ a few days ago. The only mod I have is a cat back. I do have the CZ1 ECU mod ordered and it should be here soon. The CZ1 is good for about 25 whp. I'll run at Atco again after the CZ1 is installed.

Here here are some timeslips... My car is #202

hehe sure ..

as a matter of fact i really wouldnt mind loosing a little torque low end .. from 3500 rpms on i spin the tires.. no traction .. since im still on the stock turbo, it produces massive amounts of low end torque, with so so up top ..

and thanks all for the welcome !

Nice vw there Steve.I was a vw man myself for a bit.I was given a 90 corrodo 4 banger supercharged when i graduated high school and later bought a 93 slc vr6 after i wrecked the g60.Anyway your car set the way it is and a 8 would be a close race.Numbers look real close, well hp anyway.
