So in order to do this you have to make a new shift arm from some very strong springie steel. This shaft must be thin to get into the slots without the slots having to be so big that the lands are thin.

It can be done, but you will have to make a whole new shifter as well as a tower that includes the gate. Not in you $110 budget. It might be a nice touch but a lot of guys would have to sign up with a few bucks for it to get made. I've owned at least eight cars with this type of set up. Some times it wasn't the easiest thing to shift. Once I bent the rib in a 1,2 shift, admitedly it was a very tense moment and there were thousands of other times that no problem existed.

So don't look at me,I have enough on my plate with the shifter I'm about to test now.
screw that, get back to work on the supercharger! (hehehe)

So I decided to model up a shift gate for it and send the model and drawing to the local machine shop and after a $150 later. Here is what I now have--picture shown with B&M aftermarket shifter.

Enjoy!

Although the plate you had made looks nice.....I wouldn't call that a gated shifter. You basically have one large opening with "knuckles" rather than a gated plate which should have "fingers". You would have to make the shifter "arm" more narrow to install a real gated shifter plate. The question is.....how narrow can you go and not have durability concerns? Obviously the narrower the shifter the better looking the gated plate will look with nicely separated fingers....but the downside is decreased durability.

I would also be on board for a gated shifter kit if it looked like one from that Lambo.

Have you seen vids from the in-car cams during GT1 and GT2 class Grand Am races? Do you think the drivers feel like their driving trucks because of the long shifter?
