k&n typhoon CAI

Hey guys Im new to the rx8 world and I have read a lot about adding a CAI to my car and I am wondering if it will actually increase power. A lot of what I have read says that in a lot of cases it will actually reduce power. I am looking at the k&n typhoon kit in particular. Has anyone put one on a stock rx8 and dynode it to see if it increased or decreased the power?

The only things it increases is sound and IAT. It is the most pathetic excuse ever of a CAI. Nothing will meaningfully increase horsepower except NOS, FI, SC.

Search is your friend. Try it out next time.

And if the k&n does change the IAT (im assuming lowering it) then well all know that when colder, denser air flows in the engine it results into more powerful explosions and it should give me greater power gains, even though it may only be an increase of a couple HP. So how could it be that there is no change in power, even if it is minimal?

It doesn't lower the IAT... At idle your IAT will actually increase. It boxes in the intake and allows for no direct flow into the bay. At least the stock box takes all of its air from under the bumper.

Do you know if there are any other applications that would suit my needs better?

K&N intake (for our vehicle) = garbage.
AEM, Racing Beat (w/ duct) or Mazdaspeed are your best bets

Mate, the k&n kit is JUNK

Calling it a "COLD" air intake is joke, the only air it sucks in is the HOT air coming of the back of the radiator.

Get a AEM/Mazdaspeed or the Racing Beat intake. The only ones that are proven here to make power (unless you wanna spend ridiculous money on a japanese intake such as the RE-A)

Look at the one from BHR. It puts the filter outside the engine bay behind the bumper.

AEM (same as Mazdaspeed) CAI has been shown to give you a few extra HP. I have had it on my 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8 for years and it does work and was a noticeable improvement from stock. Our verbose moderator RIWWP has also stated that the AEM/Mazdaspeed CAI is one of the few "CAI " that will actually increase HP on a Renesis engine, most will decrease HP by poor airflow or by still taking air from the hot engine bay. If you can still find the Mazdaspeed version (hard to find) it will be warrantied for the first yr/12.000 miles by Mazda.
