K&N Intake Old vs. New

Ok.. so I have done some searching around the board about the K&N typhoon short ram intake and I have come across some different things that concern me. I have the "old" K&N intake (metalic blue tube). I say "old" becuase I THINK it is the old one, I bought it like 2 years ago when I first got my first 8. I am reading that the "old" intake systems either don't do much, or that they actually decrease the hp. I thought that the car did not respond as well with the intake on it, but I wasn't for sure without a dyno, and I didn't want to spend the money for a dyno with such a small mod like an intake. I love the sound when you open up the throttle, but the response of the engine seems to be better with the stock intake. I was wondering if this was something that has been proven that the "old" short ram intake actually hurts the car. I was thinking about selling the old intake and buying the newer one, the one that only comes in black.... like I said I have done some searching on the board here and I have found a few things but not exactly what I am looking for, has anyone else noticed this, or is there a proven dyno that someone has done? I might have over looked it somewhere or just read something wrong.... Any help, or opinions would be great....

i've read somewhere very long ago that the first k&n intake actually did nothing or decreased hp. this is due to the poor design of having the intake suck in air from nowhere. the stock intake is actually better because it draws air from the looong tube

See I thought I read that too... but the K&N filter sits right in front of the stock intake tub, so it is actually getting air from the tube... its just not sucking it directly from the tube....

Because it is a short intake tube, it will draw in hotter air. That in itself will reduce horsepower. I've read stuff to the same effect, but I haven't looked too much into it myself.

Get the AEM or ReVi if you are going to get another intake. Those seem to be the best choices currently.

I have never liked AEM stuff... nothing I have ever put on a car from AEM has ever fit exactly right or worked perfect... I will look into the REVi intake though... thanks....

I have yet to see a comparison from a previos owner of the OLD vs New. However, they new is suppose to be better.

Personnally I would go with the Revi or some other intake. Do your home work here at the forum, sure it's alot of reading but you will be able to make an intelligent choice.

A couples of hours of research is worth your happines with a new intake.
