The Interceptor-X for N/A Cars
Depending on the clock rate of the processor, the ecu probably dissipates about the same heat as a 100 watt light bulb. You wouldn't want to touch a 100 watt bulb that has been on for an hour no matter how much air circulation there is.

Isn't perfectionist the term that is more accepted? 
A person shouldn't touch a light bulb anyways, it gets oil on the glass and can shorten the life of the bulb. But that is a good analogy Beachdog

yes good anaogy beachdog---and you are right it's hot. Which is my point. The cpu is hot lets help to cool the surrounding electronics a little if its a simple thing to do. I wouldnt want to put any eletronics next to a 100wt lightbulb either--
. This really will not cool the cpu (as you have rightfully pointed out) but it MAY help cool the surroundings a little. course you could always place a fan on the box----(sorry for the thread highjack here-- I'm done)

I justed ordered a NA unit which should arrive in a few weeks. I'll do a good writeup on it once I get my arms around the unit.
Should be a nice segway to my supercharger in a few years.

nope, still planing on finishing that project if they can get the code working, but the MS isn't as flexible for NA as I need and the Interceptor is pretty much the end all solution for the stock ECU being my complete and total bitch
The interceptor has more resolution, is faster and can control more options.
RG already had the MS for his 1st gen, so I didn't buy it and we had it around for experimentation.
I do want to try to finish the MS though as it might make a good cheap solution for some folks.

Scott said it would ship this week and I would likely have it by Friday or so. I'll keep you guys posted...I'm really looking forward to tuning the car properly and finally getting the power/mileage/response it should have had.
Looks like Scott is a little backed up on production due to component issues, so no Interceptor this weekend.

Update
I would like to share the results of a dyno session I performed with N/A road race cars running with the Interceptor-X E.M.S. The class rules do not allow them to run a header but allow modifications from the factory manifold back and they are allowed to modify the intake up to the factory throttle body. The engines were Mazda reman. engines at the time of this dyno with stock upper and lower manifolds and functioning intake event changes some of which controlled by the Interceptor-X. The cars were running a heatwrapped straight 3inch intake w/HKS filter and a 3 inch exhaust. There is probably 3-5 more rwhp in the car,due to the exhaust system but all three cars were already built by somone other than the current team and on the way to V.I.R. later the same day. According to the previous car builder and tuner, they made 208rwhp using Motec E.M.S. I still believe there is 220rwhp in the N/A RX-8 and believe me, I will keep looking until I find it! Scott

What really impresses me most about that chart you just posted is the hp difference at 7,000 rpm. The hp just rockets up after 6,400 and holds strong all the way to 8,500 where it starts to fall off. If you could find that extra 10 hp at 7,000 rpm, that would be even more impressive than it already is... I wonder what the difference is between the two tunes or maybe it's just the fact that they have the exhaust like you stated that is the main difference.
