Yes i can cofirm that i use an Haltech Interceptor. First when i test drive it vith the 4" pipe and Simota filter the engine went really lean like lambda 1.10-1.70!Then i mapped in most fuel in the low, midrange with numbers from -4 to +20-25 in the cells (don't know what that is in %). At hi rews 7000 and up only numbers of+5-10 were used. The only issue i have is that the engine wont idle when i let off the pedal quickly, but if i cruise and take caution it will. I think i must add a screen filter and map idle more. Anyway the car goes great and have never been so strong before! It goes really fast up to 200 km/h and keep accelerating after that...Tomorrow my "mapguru" Roger and i shall dynotest and finemap it for maximum hp on my RotoTest. Keep you informed!

Guys, is there any gain if I just change from my Mazdaspeed drop in filter to RB REVi intake? or should I just opt for RB ram air duct without changing the intake box? Which one do you experience with better result? Thank you.

Today i have dyno test my REX-8 on my RotoTest.The performance mod for the day was ML Wankeltrim prototype 4" intake with Simota polyurethane racing filter.In august when it was hotter i have 190 hp@wheels. Today with some fine mapping of lambda and power the gain was 15 rwhp! Now the power is 205 rwhp@8500 rpm, and torque 208 Nm. Ihave find some 15rwhp in the lower,midrange also! Of course i have dyno sheets to prove, but i must take help to post it!

I dont mean to be "That person that says its not valad" but if the pulls were done on days that were nothing like each other, you will get different results. Hotter day means less power. cooler day means more power. (humidity also plays a part) now I am not saying that yoru mods didnt do anything, I am just saying that they may not have made that full 15 h.p. when I dynoed my car it was 80 degrees, so a nice normal day. it produced 202 h.p...... Just an FYI :) Thanks for the info though. |
I agree with you! I shall today test the stock air cleaner box and use the map i dyno with in August. I will try to adjust the map today to see if there is any hp gain to have now in October with cooler air and higher humidity. Keep you informed.

On Saturday i did not have the time to get some new numbers on my stock air box, but i did some pills mods and fine tune the map for more power and find it! 212.8 hp@8500 rpm!This is on a hub dyno RotoTest. 238 hp in the engine dont sound much but i only had 185 rwhp back in 2005.

Very Exciting Lasse! Interesting to know that a larger diameter intake will indeed increase overall power. I didn't think the intake was a limiting factor. That's cool to find out. Of course to change the diameter we'll all have to get our cars tuned with a Piggyback ECU. Either way I think we need one to make the most of intake mods.

Yes that is for sure when you have my mods you definately need a Piggy back to get the most out of the fuel. I am now waiting for PeterG to phone me so i can leave my car at his garage this week. It shall be really interesting to see what his headers can do powerwise!

I have a new concern about these aftermarket intakes: When you increase airflow at lower rpms, say below 5500ish, you increase horespower but decrease torque. It could be argued that torque is more inportant at these lower rpms, right? The way you increase torque down there is by cutting some of the air supply and introducing more fuel into the mix... hence the stock air intake having 2 seperate paths forward of the air filter. So is it possible that these cute looking intakes are actually hurting our power to the concrete below 5500rpm???
Just a question, I have a Revi and duct on my baby... FYI- search SDAIS (sequential Dynamic Air Induction System) for more info on this theory. |

Its always good to have more air ... the stock designs are really smart. Thats probably why you dont see much gain from aftermarket intake ... mostly for bling and sound with minor increase. I think most ppl on this forum knows what SDAIS do. but it has its problems too. |

Mazda did a great job with the stock intake. they tried to maximie power, while keeping it quiet. intakes are for bling and noise. both of which I love! :) hence the reason why I love the K&N. :D |

The MS and AEM are the exact same thing and I have had the AEM for quite a bit now and I have had zero issues with water being brought into the intake and rains alot here in Vancouver. It comes with a Mesh type sock to clock water to go into your intake just put that on.
