I recently put in the K&N panel filter, and it seems to get as good or better fuel economy. I haven't filled up yet so I can't say exactly what the mpg was, but on a recent trip I've gone over 330 miles and the low fuel light isn't on yet. My fuel economy is usually 22-24 anyway on long trips.

I usually get 20-24mpg also going 73 on the highway.

Usually set the cruise at 75 on the highway. And no, I don't drive like grandma, I tried that once and got worse fuel economy.

BTW, I concur with most of you about the K&N, HP gain?... pfft!, The whine is much more audible though. Throttle blips are at your command. The tone is also where it should be as stock.

I am only using the white sticker since my Pirellis are not rated for over 180 MPH...

Are people still getting that deal mentioned on page 1? K&N panel filter plus K&N oil filter for under $50? I can't that same thing anywhere.

Shucks quoted me 57 and 4 days wait, while online I can find it for 50 shipped but without the oil filter.

Ideas?

Anybody heard of any problems with the K&N letting too much junk in? From reading the earlier article someone linked to, it sounds like it flows better because it filters less.

Just installed the K&N panel filter tonight. Just my luck both grommets from hell popped into the radiator fans, turning a 1 minute swap into a 1 hour swap. If I had known about dealing with the hassle of finding the grommets in the dark, I would've just got an MS or RB CAI (That option can wait until after my warranty expires).

I didn't have time to drive it around, so I'll have to wait 'til tomorrow. Sounds nice with the hood up though. Bring on the extra mileage!

The throttle response is improved when going from a stop. The clutch seems to engage earlier, something I was accustomed to with my old car (MR2 turbo).

Turning left from a stop onto a 45mph road, my back end kicked out a lil, just like mentioned in another thread. No full-blown drift, but it was still a surprise to me.

My gas mileage seems to be improved, but we'll see by the end of next week after a couple of fill-ups. I drive from Great America to O'hare during the weekdays, so that's about a 90-mile round trip daily commute. I was at a half tank when I replaced the filter and calculated 19mpg, compared to my usual 18. I'm hoping to hit at least a consistent 20mpg.

The thing I liked the most right after the install was when I had the hood up and was playing with the throttle. There's a certain rpm where the intake would make this nice metallic "zzzhhhiinngghhh" sound. Too bad I can hardly hear it with the hood closed.

My butt-dyno detects a slight improvement in torque in the midrange rpms.

Pleased with my purchase so far. This may be the mod that will keep me from selling my car.

I baught one a while back and hen ended going with the REVI intake...

Mine is still new and I will be putting it up on ebay probaby in a few days.

But to he said above I also found the same to be true.

After a week of having it, I filled up about 4 times already. The first three were in the 19mpg zone, my last fill up was at 18.9mpg. I usually did 18mpg before the filter swap. I was hoping to hit 20mpg and now I'm wondering if an exhaust will help out.

They are selling them for like $38.79, plus shipping like $5-6. Best price I found.

I am planning on removing the VFAD and any/all baffles in stock airbox, hoping to get some decent sound out of it. Probably won't happen 'til next week, but I'll post up my results/opinion.

Just installed mine last night...Haven't really had time to compare between the stock filter. I'll be sure to do so tonight after work.

Using the Revi air duct and cut up VFAD box with foam to seal it to stock air box

Does removing the dividers (baffles ?) from inside the stock air box do anything?

Also remove one screen while leaving the one closest to the MAF. Doesnt seem to hurt idle so far.

If you surf some of the BITOG web posts you will see that the overwelming majority of people there thinks K+N sucks. Filters less apparently.

If so, how sensitive to dust injestion is the Renesis?

Well I got my K&N, and put it in last week. While I was in the airbox, I took out the two panels in there.

To be honest, I didn't feel or hear much of a difference. As others have said, there might be a slight improvement in the upper RPM range. I didn't hear any difference, but that might have been because I couldn't hear anything over my exhaust.

I was a little dissapointed, but I was still planning on removing the VFAD to see what that would do. I was going to put that review in this thread, but I decided to start a new thread about it, so check it out if you're interested (preview: it made a difference).

On a plus side, fuel mileage seems to have improved slightly.

I intend to move to a Revi or MS cai before it's time to clean my K&N. I've only hit 19mpg in the first month of using it, then I've returned to 18mpg since. Dang.

OK I've been running the filter for a few weeks now. I have a RB exhaust system and I can hear no difference in the sound, I feel no difference in acceleration and my gas mileage has not changed. No difference from stock.

I looked at the stock filter for comparison and the two filter are the same height and width but the stock filter is 2 to 2.5 times as deep as the K&N which would translate into 2 to 2.5 times more surface area then the K&N. I also held up the stock filter by my mouth and breathed out hard, I could feel my breath on the other side of the filter. The OEM is a very good filter, if your looking for performance gains I don't see how the K&N can deliver anything better then the stock filter.

Ulllose did an RX-8 dyno test article that just came out in the SCCA Sportscar magazine. A new K&N and Green filter gained 5 - 7 hp over a new OE filter. A very dirty K&N lost power.
