My clutch is about to die i need any sugesttion on which kit should i run.

I heard exedy its a good choice .

exedy stage 1 organic is a great clutch. OEM pedal feel with a bit more bite than stock. mine has seen alot more abuse than it was designed for and held up great. still has loads of life left in it. for a street car its really a perfect clutch. IMO

Got mine from BHR this summer 350 w/ free shipping and they include a free bearing you'll need if you're taking your flywheel off. It's a great clutch, a tiny bit stiffer than stock but does very well.

Don't forget you WILL need to adjust your clutch pedal after installation!

Add a clutch pedal bracket while your at it.

im running a act 6 puck sprung, it has been good to me. pedal feel is good not like driving a 03 mustang GT and getting beast *** calves.

The advice I was given when I need to replace my clutch was don't get one that is too strong eg stage 2 or more. The clutch should be the weak point in the drive line, it is relatively cheap compared to everything else. Better to have you clutch wear out quicker then destroy your tranny.
I bought the Exedy stage one and get the flywheel too, it's the only opportunity to change it.

I did the stage 1, from BHR, with a light flywheel. When I was done I needed to shim the pressure plate to get it all to work right (thanks again Charles for the help figuring it out). The clutch was about .060 thicker than the old one (the amount of shim I added). It was changed because the release bearing exploded (15 or so parts).

If I had it to do again, I would do a stock type clutch (what wright^^ said) and the light flywheel. The clutch I removed was factory, had 100,000 miles on it, and looked fine. The PP was trashed from the release bearing. That is what triggered the replacement. The stiffer clutch is a bit of a pain, and I am not sure it is necessary.

I love the light flywheel.

Hi sorry for reviving an old thread but recently my clutch started to go bad and I wasn't sure what to get. I looked up Exedy #10803AHD but it says its not compatible for the rx8. So i found Clutch Masters Fx300 and was wondering if that would be good? Also any tips on flywheel selections? I'm a little too thrilled about my clutch going bad because now I have a reason to get some good parts. But I don't know what some of the good ones are.

i just installed a xtd dual friction clutch disk reusing the factory pressure plate. EBAY $70 . I wanted to replace the old disk before it started slipping and tearing up the flywheel. The dual friction clutch has a more grip without the shutter, it is a very smooth clutch. It is much easier to kick the rear out with this clutch. The bronze side of the clutch is on the pressure plate side which will most likely wear first, this means when the clutch is ready to be replaced the pressure plate will be wrecked but the flywheel will be ok.

Go OEM, Exedy is fine.

While it is out, consider a street light flywheel and counterweight.

That will be the best mod you do.

I just replaced my s2 clutch with the exedy oem replacement kit. No problems with the install, and works well, but it is a little stiffer than stock. I might go with the actual mazda oem parts if I did it again.

We just put the Exedy OEM equivalent in our car and it feels and works great. The majority of us aren't upping power to the point of needing overly aggressive clutches. (Just reality) If you are drifting or boosted then higher stages could be a good idea.

^blu3dragon, it may have just felt stiffer as you put a new unit in vs your old worn out one. Didn't notice a massive difference in feel with our new unit.

The dual friction clutch pros and con
pro it feels stock until you start driving agresive, than you notice it has much better response/grip
con it will not last as long as oem
pro when it wears it probably wear out the plate side first. Flywheel side is oem type pad plate side is bronze.
Con xtd and centerforce have weak pressure plates. Use exeedy or act. Just by the disk I dought it will last as long as stock but it does drive better.

I used the dual friction disk in my na rx7's and always loved it, I think it's the best feeling clutch for those who want better than stock.

I raced on OE and Exedy OE replacement RX8 clutches for 10 years, including a bazillion 7500+ rpm dead drop drag race style launches. There is zero reason to use a more aggressive clutch unless you are adding a turbo or supercharger.

Yea, the Stage 1 (Mazdaspeed) clutch is a bit much for normal driving unless you just really like a heavier peddle... I like mine, but it's not necessary.

Can anyone explain why I see such drastic differences in the Exedy clutch kit online? $160 from Ebay; $400+ from other vendors. What am I missing? My car started Throw-out-bearing squeal yesterday...if it's not one thing, it's another...(sigh)

Ebay's are stolen or counterfeit? It's easy to have profit margin if you don't pay anything for it in the first place.

I mean, maybe not, but in my anti-fraud anti-theft experience, if someone is consistently selling something for significantly less than the manufacturer will sell it for, their source is probably illegitimate. It's impossible to stay in business otherwise (barring that they take a massive hit on one thing so as to make a big profit on something else, which isn't what happens with ebay sellers)

Imo, I'd buy from someone reputable, even though it costs more. It's worth it in the end.

Thanks - what I noticed with looking closer - the disc. The cheap ebay kits showed what looked like much 'more lame-looking' discs. Seems like about $330 is the best price I can find from a reputable shop.

Does anyone know whether this clutch would be awesome? It seems to be the same as the exedy but cheaper (off eBay) and has a koyo bearing which I think is an upgrade. I did notice it seems to be missing the pilot bearing seal.

I notice that the one straight from exedy is more expensive and it seems to also include the seal with the pilot bearing based on the picture.

would it also be advisable to order the koyo pilot bearing?
