I bought new stuff

Just ordered some goodies for the RX8 --

Tein S-Tech
SR Pulleys
SR HiFlow Cat
SR Flywheel
RB Exhaust

I am keeping the intake stock and the computer stock as well, just doing the mechanics behind the engine first.

Looking into a header but all signs point to "waste of money", so I will wait for FI one day.

toodles,

alex

I was thinking of ordering the exact same stuff less the Tein S-Tech. Please post your opinion of these products when you get them on. I was a bit worried that with the high flow cat and the RB exhaust it would be too loud. Let me know what you think once installed.THANKS!

What made you decide on the S spring instead of the H spring? Just curious cause I'm the process of buying a set and deciding which one to get.

hmm .. i wanted a lower ride than what the Htechs provide .. and also, the S-techs have a higher spring rate than the H-techs. Not that I'd ever exceed any of the coil specs .. but knowing I have a strong set of springs at a lower ride height gives me comfort when I break hard or take hard turns.

UPDATE -- I just had them installed and the car is ALIVE!! There was some work that Ivan (the mechanic) had to do w/ the HiFlow cat to get it cleanly installed but he did it and its perfect he said. Between the pulleys, flywheel and the cat + catback, the car roars, like a fast breating throaty beast!! The lightened flywheel definitely brings out the car along w/ the SR pulleys.

I just need a video recorder w/ sound to share but I don't have one. Perhaps when Moostafa can test drive my car (i'm still out w/ ACL rehab) I can get a chance to record the inside and outside the car.

I need to dyno the car soon to see where I stand but from my standpoint, the car is reborn and extremely more fun to drive!!!

BTW -- the S-techs need time to settle right, because I can stick 3 fingers in the front wheel well, IZoomZoomI, is that right?

I must give a special thanks to Ivan, the mechanic. He installed everything in 9 hours. He spent all saturday night until sunday 3am working on it. He's a hard worker and does a good job. He also knows how to work on the rotary motor itself too.

Thanks to IZoomZoomI for his referral to, I won't forget and he's a great guy, I will be going back to him if Racing Beat comes out w/ their lighter rotors for installs.

I was talking to Jim mederer today over at the Racing Beat event, and he said that they tested a bunchof different designs for the headers and could not get more than 3-4 hp from them. Said it really doesn't justify the cost, and the cost for them to manufacture a header unit. Also you should wait for the RB air intake. It looks like a pretty slick unit, and they said the main points in their design is to not have it too loud, and not have the idle issues that some of the other units out there have had.

Fanman -- totally waiting on RB's light rotor ... or maybe porting research ... I want to see if they can squeeze more out of this motor, I prefer to see the rotor come out first though along w/ some dynos

"BTW -- the S-techs need time to settle right, because I can stick 3 fingers in the front wheel well, IZoomZoomI, is that right?"

the springs wouldn't settle a lot most of the time they should be at 95% drop right after the install should be a lil less than two fingers from the gap to tire. Roll your car forward and brake and reverse and brake, if that doesn't help jack the car up and loosen the control arm bolts then lower the car to load the springs then tighten again that should cure the problem if it is there.

Congrats on the new mods man, I'm jealous!!! Still kinda hesitant with the pulleys though, I think the flywheel was the main difference, it really helps driveability wise man! How you like the exhaust?

I hope I get a discount on his services next time since I reffered you hehe :D

between you and Moostafa, you shoudl test out the mods. You being someone w/out pulleys and Moostafa, well, future customer.

I think I will give the car a day or so to settle but I can't drive ACL still. Sounds complicated dude, you wanna help me At least, at this height, I can get init the underground parking lot w/out scratching the bumper.

yea if you run into driveways a lot i suggest keepin it that way lol. I will take you up on that offer. Also how come you didn't consider getting the the intake? Didn't all that stuff combined make like 15 hp to the wheels or something?

Honestly, no ones intake is the design I was looking for, UP until SevenStock photos of the Racing Beat one. I was looking for a design like theirs. Not sure if you remember I posted a Gruppe-M intake before but I always like thse types of intakes, kinda like a CAI w/ a long arm but the filter is positioned like a ramair.

I will get the RB one when it gets released for sure.

Alex,

We talked to Jim about porting the engine as well. They have tried to do that incl. porting out the rotor housing, cleaning up the rough edges around the ports, etc. Said they got around 5hp - 6hp.

How does the car sound with the RB exhaust & SR Hi-Flow cat ? That is the setup I was thinking about. I am deciding between the SR unit & Canzoomer's MP-4 unit (Random Tech's hi-flow cat & resonator). I don't want it too loud. I just got the SR Motorsports flywheel. They make good stuff.

Hey Fanman -- I'm not sure what the RB exhaust minus the SR Cat sounds but right now, it sounds like a fast breathing, deep throaty sound. Its not too bad with sound. I park my car in a underground garage, very echoey. My car doesn't seem to set off alarms or make people stare. To me, the sound level is equivalent or even less than a Ferrari 360 Modena. (there are a few of them at work, so I hear them all the time.) So, the sound is normal at normal driving speeds. Inside, it does get a tad louder for sure but definitely, nothing too intrusive for sure.

I can't wait for the RB intake ..

Oh, as for porting, did you ask how they were going to implement that? Are we sending our motors back for them to do the porting? Or are they gonna send us templates (which I doubt)?
