HF CAT without Catback

Does putting in a highflow cat without getting an aftermarket catback make sense?

Yes, if money is an issue. The high flow CAT will give you a louder exhaust and a very slight HP increase for under $500. Where as the high flow cat + aftermarket exhaust will set you back to close to $1,000 with no significant increase in HP over a OEM exhaust & High flow CAT setup.

Cool. The main reason id want the new cat is because I'm afraid if i do any tuning, the stock one will melt.

The stock one won't melt right away. But if you aggresively tune the 8, you will just shorten the life span of the cat. Instead of lasting 100,000 miles it will last you like 50,000 miles.

Anyways, go with the HF Cat if your going to tune it. It will give you great gains to accompany the tuning.

Yeah catless has terrible fumes. Plus, I might be a little environmental, but catless pollutes too much.

Also going catless has a big chance of your CEL going off.

i've had this setup for a few weeks now...

- cheaper then a catback

- its definately louder, not sure if it sounds better though to my ear at least (will wait a few more weeks to give my final verdict on sound quality as its starting to sound deeper)

- backfires a lot more

- tends to lean the tuning out a bit which could help in power if your stock. After readjusting my cz back to the before-cat afr, the gains are maybe 2hp at most - but still better then most catbacks... -shrug-
