hey racing beat HURRY THE HELL UP!!!!!

just kidding was curious about the release date of single outlet exhaust and estimated cost

StealthTL 11-13-2005 11:51 PM

I'm far from joking.....

I thought for a second this was a post by someone irate at Racing Beat for dragging their feet on the retuned/reflashed ECU.

Jim has hinted, on several occasions, that they (RB) have cracked/been given keys to the original code of the ECU, and would SHORTLY be reflashing stock computers to a higher performance level.

Obviously I was wrong, and everyone is OK with waiting, and have no expectations at all....sorry I brought it up really, an act of sheer optimism to even dare to pose the question in the first place.

...and now back to your regular program, which we join "in progress".....

YAY!

rotarygod 11-14-2005 01:40 AM

At Sevenstock they had said that ecu gains weren't enough to warrant an ecu reflash and that they are all but abandoning the project for the aftermarket. They haven't worked on it in a long time.

dang they should give that information up (SELL :)) to the aftermarket crowd, we could do something with it

or maybe they already did 'cough 'cough ;)

IZoomZoomI 11-14-2005 02:42 AM

maybe someone could clarify, how come some piggybacks, well in our case, canzoomer see a decent amount of gains and a reflash can't? Doesn't really make sense to me seeing that reflashing in more ways than one is a lot more reliable than piggybacks and can't pull off the same amount of hp gain.

truemagellen 11-14-2005 08:23 AM

gains are short lived with canzoomer and emanage (virtually same thing)...stock ecu eventually takes over

Jaguar_MBA 11-14-2005 08:40 AM

I also have been expecting Racing Beat to release some new performance products for the RX-8....but they have released nothing in ~ the last 6 months....are they all out of Perfomance Gain ideas for the RX-8? I check the RB website ~ twice a month looking for a new product update, to no avail.

Yes they are suppose to be coming out with a single race exhaust...but they already have an exhaust system (Dual Tips), not sure why this is all that great of a release. I want another performance modification that will make power and be backed by Racing Beat. It just "feels" as if they have thrown in the towel on the RX-8 Power Issue.

rotarygod 11-14-2005 09:43 AM

Understand that Racing Beat is looking for legal power increases. Other piggyback units can alter everything to the point where it wouldn't do as good on an emissions test but make more power.

brillo 11-14-2005 10:55 AM

Short of a bolt on supercharger kit (which racing beat is not going to make), there really aren't any bolt on products that are going to add any meaningful power you can feel (ok maybe nitrous, but thats not really what we're talking about here).

Mazda, as Racing Beat said, really squeezed about all the power out of the engine they could from an emissions legal basis.

ECU mods will likely net maybe 10-15whp more depending on how close to the edge you like to run, but 10-15whp is something you can only barely feel.

The best bet for bolt-on performance IMO that you can feel would be the REVi intake + as light weight wheels and tires as you can get. That, or save your money for a turbo or S/C.

Lightweight Flywheel. I dont have one, but I drove Charlies car (owns Mazcare in Marrietta,GA). An intake, exhaust, and flywheel made it a whole new animal

A single exhaust for this car is a whole different beast.

1. Substantially lighter than the regular exhaust/RB exhaust
2. More straight through design, vs. the "regular" exhaust design where the pipe goes from the middle, hits the muffler & disperses between the two exits.

We tested a "experimental" turbo single exhaust from a different, but highly reputable, company and to our amazement got +10 lb.-ft. of tq gain.

There's a short discussion here also, but it was mainly my search for a new rear bumper cover.

If you can't wait, it seems you can build one yourself :)

i want little baby bunnies to cough on the emmissions of my car when i start it up. :)

rotarygod 11-14-2005 06:02 PM

Racing Beat is in California. While that might work well here, out there they'd have environmentalists all over them in no time.

Oh it goes down? :scratchhe why would they make it like that?

because its better for racing....of course.

IZoomZoomI 11-14-2005 08:19 PM

yea it's not one of those show mods, this is for the hardcore track junkies that wants to dump off some weight for race purposes.

kw1k 11-14-2005 10:38 PM

Do we have a sound clip of this exhaust on the site?

TeamRX8 11-15-2005 05:47 PM

no, it's just music for my ears only :)

<edited out bad info>

I considered making a few and came to the same conclusion, mine wasn't exactly cheap even though it was considerably less than a Ti system

rotarygod 11-15-2005 07:30 PM

If Racing Beat had dropped their single outlet exhaust, they wouldn't have just shown it off a month ago at Sevenstock. It's a custom order thing anyways. Call them and order one.

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF? With that information... why are they not developing a new stand-alone ECU? Someone explain this to me before my head explodes.

rotarygod 11-15-2005 07:50 PM

Because they are only looking for emissions legal power gains. They aren't going to provide a kit to change your own tuning for use with other kits because people would blow their own cars up and blame Racing Beat for it. If they ever did release a flash it would literally be just that, a flash. You would have no control over what any of it's parameters are. At Sevenstock last month they said they had all but abandoned the ecu flash as they weren't getting enough emissions legal gains to justify selling it. No one would buy it.

They have been able to reprogram the stock ecu for a long time now. They are using their knowledge to help Mazda test forced induction on the Renesis. It's most likely not going to be an aftermarket product.

Nemesis8 11-15-2005 07:59 PM

Racing Beat could benifit from a SkunkWorks operation for sure...

Mikelikes2drive 11-15-2005 08:04 PM

To my knowledge... (i talked to Mr. Oku in the parking lot of RB) the single outlet exhaust is already out my friend... you just have to call them and order it.

this exhuast however was only meant for the hardcore racers who really need the extra light weightness and power. not meant as a daily driver
