Help to Silence Exhaust

I have a greddy sp2 and catless mid pipe, got to many noise tickets. What can i do to bring the noise down with out losing power and my flames.

greg985 11-15-2008 04:31 PM

slap a turbo on there, that will quiet it up real quick

dhan 11-15-2008 05:42 PM

Lol oh man that was what i was going for too. Did you like rev it in front of the cops? lol. What kind of midpipe do you have on there?

tsxmidship 11-15-2008 05:43 PM

are silencers available for the exhaust?
or maybe put a resonator in the exhaust.

both will result in a loss of power tho, with the resonator losing more. neither will make you lose your flames.

u got noise tickets because u drove it hard.....therefore producing loud ass noise....i think its quite the same sound as any other aftermarket....the only place difference is in cabin is louder.....nothing to bother me though.......as to quiet it....switch back to stock...only way...cuz nobody wants gay silencers and putting a resonator is like putting stock back on

ZumnRx8 11-15-2008 05:50 PM

part of having a race pipe...be grateful u didnt get a ticket for running without a cat.

imput1234 11-15-2008 05:51 PM

put the stock one back on.

FK!!!! 3k~ i think i might goe with a Supercat instead of racepipe now....whats the power gain difference?

gregs 11-15-2008 08:40 PM

dual resonated mid pipe was a night and day noise difference for me

Now that Mazsport is gone we dont have that option.

Wanna sell it? :wavey: :rollingla

Well I hope to go turbo soon. I am smart with my rx8. At very low revs its a real deap loud sound which cops still jump on me. Is there anything I can get that is real cheap right now to put on the tips of my greddy exhaust for normal day driving. And can be taken off when I feel like pushing her to the max.

gregs 11-16-2008 01:06 PM

you either go back to the stock cat or add resonators to your catless mid pipe

newroeboy 11-16-2008 01:14 PM

its a 3 in or a 3in 1/2 mid pipe I need to check. whats the best resonator I can get any ideas

gregs 11-16-2008 01:29 PM

depends on the type of race pipe you have most bolt on race pipes are 3" inside diameter in size

ZumnRx8 11-16-2008 01:44 PM

just put ur stock back on....i live in a rural area below mountains where the sound doesnt echo....so its doesnt matter...unless its in the night.....then the whole fucking world can here it.....that is...if i were to get it....

04RX8man 11-16-2008 01:48 PM

resonator is about the only way or put the cat back on will help some and save on some tickets....

newroeboy 11-16-2008 02:59 PM

what brand resonator should i get

i meant it in the performance kind of way.... not the sound .....adding to a race pipe defeats the purpose of a race pipe....if anything he should just get a supercat.
:)

not true at all. look down a racepipe with a resonator. its completely straight. it just bumps out. it does not interrupt the flow inside.

the greddy sp2 tips are 4" or something. find 4" universal tip silencers. you might have to drill a hole into the bottom of the tip, but thats no biggie.

i love the silencers with the turboxs. the difference is full blown race car (not good for dd) and a nice growl for daily driving.

exactly. If you look up how a resonator works, it doesnt really impact performance. A high-flow cat will hinder flow... a resonator, not so much.

newroeboy 11-17-2008 05:05 PM

I would go with the tip silencers but the sp2 is oval not completely round. Think it would still work.

tsxmidship 11-17-2008 05:56 PM

resonators do interrupt the exhaust flow
