Gutted my cat today, works great!
Really?
How many wheel to wheel races have you run?
Where is your engineering degree from?
The last race car that I competed in had cut springs and they worked just fine.
Perhaps cutting 3 coils and leaving stock shocks might not be the smartest, but you can cut springs conservatively to both increase spring rate AND lower ride height.
Same with the gutted cat - is it ideal? Probably not. Is it better than stock? Absolutely.
Is the cost/benefit analysis there?
Improved performance, 0 cost.
Turbulence through the cat is the least of your worries, particularly with these cars, and particularly given how restrictive to airflow a cat truly is.
Would I ever run a car without a cat on public roads?
No.
I don't like to commit federal crimes which include potential jail time and 4 figure fines.

And I am not an engineer but neither are you, otherwise you would know what cutting a progressive rate spring would do.
And I would love to hear why you think a bashed out stock cat is better than a properly functioning OEM cat pipe or aftermarket high flow mid pipe with cat.
Oh, and I am sure the engineer folks will chime in soon to school you properly.

You never forget the sound of a cat getting mangled in one of those.

so i have a gutted 8. When was CAT was there, i never witnessed any blue smoke. but after gutting the CAT, I see blue smoke from tail pipes( just like in the video) when its cold or when i rev it after warming up ( stationary or moving). wats the logic behind it and is it normal to see smoke after gutting?
Need a good answer as mechanics here are telling me that this is oil ring failure but after videos like these, i think it is due to gutted cat. wats your take on this?
For reference ( example) :

Idk the science behind it, but assuming the purpose of a cat is to reduce emissions, it probably does limit the smoke coming out.
I do a heavy prefix & no cat, I have always had a lot of blue smoke since then.

so you are also experiencing blue smoke on stationary revs and also when you rev hard while driving? does that mean that my oil control rings are safe for now or is there a way to diagnose it? i do get a little seepage of oil in my plugs but a little only
I don't notice when revving, cause I only do that when driving, and don't notice.
The seepage issue is beyond my scope of knowledge.
I didn't need to replace the gaskets as they didn't break, but I had new ones on hand just in case they did. I'm getting a real midpipe soon and I'll be putting in the new gaskets then.

Going to have to agree with 9krpm. If you aren't going to do it right then don't. Gutting a good cat is a ricer move. And can actually cause more harm than good. Plus Gutting one will cause the 02 to read to rich on the fuel side and can cause the car to lean out over time causing severe damage. So you absolutely must have a tune to do it and if your going to do it. Just buy the correct parts.

Causes the car to run lean?
Severe damage?
Must have a tune to run a gutted cat?
