Greddy Turbo Set Up Help!

I want to have my car as a daily driver i want a tune that delivers that.. any of you all have the greddy turbo set up??? what would i need to purchase?

I know of some things that i would need

turbo kit- 3,200-3,500 $
interceptor-x-1,500 $
wide band o2 sensor-450$
greddy boost control-345$
HKS BOV-260$
Gauge pod kit (ashtray)-450
greddy oil pan-300$

anything else i missed? and what problems could i encounter??? :Eyecrazy:

how would the oil changes be? i heard something that your oil changes will be harder to do unless you get upgraded oil pan with two holes one for the turbo and the other for the oil drain plug???

please help me. remember this is for daily use i dont want 400 RWHP i just want at least 300 :)

thanks you guys! this is very helpful..

but another issue.. can this kit work as a daily driver and have the confidence or driving long distances without the worry of your engine blowing.

sauceyI986 03-14-2008 01:54 PM

as long as you have it tuned properly you should be fine

05rx8mazda 03-14-2008 01:59 PM

You're not going to get 300WHP with the Greddy Turbo. You can get 270-280 pretty easy with the right tune.

FWIW - I hate the HKS BOV sound.... kind of annoying. If your looking for a DD, get a recirculating BOV.

05rx8mazda 03-14-2008 05:13 PM

Im sure i can get 300 I saw this stock 8 with greddy and interceptor X it was pushing 290 RWHP and 240 Torque.. and since im adding the ignition upgrade to the mix im sure i can get it..

but i want a tuen that safe and wont blow in month.. it can blow after 2, or 3 years or so lol

after that once i get bored of the power ill upgrade the turbo and upgrade the fuel system witht he pump and injectors n ill be mid 300's

Kane 03-14-2008 05:26 PM

Flowmap of turbo; Greddy/Mitsubishi TD06 - you can look it up.

You'll get over 300 at the crank, but likely not at the wheels. But you will be close enough.

It's possible, but not likely. The turbo is small and you need to pump up the PSI to get the power. Once you're in the 12 psi range, you end up generating more heat than power. The more PSI, the hotter the air, and the more chance of you destroying your engine. The better solution is to get a turbo that can flow more air, like the GT3071R from Jeff. Then you can go to 300 without breaking a sweat.

If that's true, why do you want to push your car to the ragged edge and get 300 out of the greddy turbo?

05rx8mazda 03-15-2008 12:24 PM

yea as of right now i just want to get the most power out of the greddy turbo kit on stock fuel pump and injectors... i want to start the set up mid of this summer..

i want something thats relaible you know? kinda like how a turbo car feels right out of the dealership.

mysql mentioned to go with the cobb access thingy ive been readin up on it and it just seems to good to be true.. iono haha and MUCH cheaper than the interceptor.

then when i get used to the power ill upgrade the turbo and the fuel system.
but AGAIN MAINTAIN THAT reliability.

by ragged edge what do you mean mysql?

mysql 03-15-2008 12:43 PM

Ragged edge meaning pushing the injectors to near their limits, pushing the greddy turbo to generate so much boost and heat and increasing the chances of detonation in your engine. That's what you'll be doing by trying to hit 300 on the stock greddy kit with your stock car.

If you stick with the stock boost the greddy kit was designed for, you'll make around 250 whp. If you up the boost a bit, you can do 260-280. Any higher and you are not trying to keep it safe.

Fanman 03-15-2008 01:45 PM

You are already at the price of the Mazda Maniac, upgraded Greddy Turbo kit. If you are truly looking to get to 300+ whp, with much better reliability, you should look at that kit. Larger turbo, upgraded injectors, upgraded hoses & clamps, etc.

If you want to drive a 300 RWHP and not go the right way going about it you are going to be needing a new engine real fast. The best way to go FI is to learn more and ask questions after you read up on all the issues the GReddy turbo and the options that are available to fix those issues. Judging by your posts you are not ready for FI and if you think you are then by all means go blow your engine just because you wanted to push the MitSui turbo to get you 300 rwhp.

This is your car so be smart about it and research. You can never research too much then ask Jason or Jeff for help if you think you are really ready for FI.

PS If you wanted a 300 RWHP car cheap then you shouldn't have bought the 8. I am not saying FI is cheap but you are looking at 7k ATLEAST to pull of 300 RWHP with FI (unless you get the Greddy Kit used)

1. Complete GReddy Turbo System & Upgrade kit $5800

Sell the extra greddy turbo and ultimate. You might be able to recoup $400-500 for the emu and $500-800 for the old turbo.

2. synchronic bov $200

3. aem uego wideband $240

4. greddy boost gauge $150

5. boost controller $300

That's already ~$7,000, assuming you can install it yourself. But you might be able to recoup ~$1000 from the extra parts in the turbo kit.

Then it's nice to get the accessport, and greddy oil pan

05rx8mazda 03-15-2008 02:25 PM

ohh ok ok i am beginning to understand a little bit more. thanks you guys. So the stock greddy turbo kit is designed to only run on 6 psi and not 8? or 9? if i did up the boost my engine is more likely to go poof?

ok ok and hwere can i get the upgraded piping for the greddy kit? from their website? i didnt see it on there though.

and that acces port does it work on N/A engines in the same way the interceptor x does? it seems to good to be true after i read up on it. this cobb thingy sure does confuse me!! whered do we get the maps do them come with it??? or download them??? do we have to pay for the maps?? does it not have to be tuned by a shop? imt hinking to much now. i am planning on getting it and use it as of now with my N/A engine while i start buying my turbo kit and parts but i want to buy it Peice by peice. you knoW? but also allt he other things that are reccomended but not required

ok soo i guess the best thing is to just run the stock greddy on 6 psi for safest most relaible set up with that tiny turbo... later on upgrade the turbo, and fuel system UP the boost and still maintain relability?
=]

oki doki!

Right. It's made for about 6 psi of boost. It's quite safe, but the turbo doesn't flow well and the bearings wear out easily. That's why even if you want to stay under 300 whp, I would still recommend Jeff's upgraded turbo.

The AccessPort makes use of your car's ecu (computer). Instead of having a piggyback system modify the values to the car, you tell the car's computer what you want and do it directly. It works for both NA and FI.

You can get it from Cobb directly, or you can buy from a reseller. MazdaManiac has developed his own maps that work for FI and NA, which are included at no extra cost when you buy from him. If you buy elsewhere, you're limited to what Cobb releases on their website. In the future a street tuner software will be available (at a cost) which you can use to tune your car, perm delete CELs you don't want to see, modify OMP flow rates, change radiator fan settings and more. Or if you bought from MazdaManiac, you tell him what you want and he custom makes one for you.

That would work. But keep in mind the word SAFE isn't defined by PSI, but by your car's tune.

thanks bro!! cleared up most of my questions.. I was iffy bout the cobb thingy..
Scott sent me a message saying not to pull the trigger on the management.. but if this cobb thingy can do it without drilling or removing parts im down for it.. its just i dotn want to buy this cobb thingy n have no maps n then Have no customer support.. you know? i dont know if mazdamaniac will help you if you have any questions or issues.. and what if you already have intake n such n you decide to go N/A as of right now would it cause interference witht he cobb thingy or can you use the stock tuen that comes with the cobb??

what i mean is if you change a mod will you have to get a different map to suite what you have ont he car.. assuming the car is N/A im sure going FI would have to require a different map

MazdaManiac supplies both NA and FI maps when you buy through him. It takes all of 4 minutes to reflash your car's PCM. Very easy.
